The elevator stopped at the 17th floor. Just the two of us. She looked at the display, then at me. “Why are you smiling?” “Because we have 20 seconds before the doors open.” “And what exactly are you planning to do in 20 seconds?” I stepped a little closer. “Nothing.” She raised an eyebrow. “Liar.” The elevator reached the floor. The doors opened. She walked out, turned around with that impossible little smile and said, “Maybe next time, don't waste the 20 seconds.” And just like that, she disappeared down the hallway.
