NEW VIDEO: We just released a new video explaining one of the most important — and least talked about — drivers of high drug prices: patent abuse. The ETHIC Act would close the loopholes drug companies exploit to block cheaper generics. Watch, share, and urge Congress to act: tinyurl.com/e3kr3vv2

The third round of Medicare drug price negotiations will end on November 1, five days before the midterms and healthcare costs remain a major voter concern, with polling showing they could influence decisions at the ballot box, and CMS will broaden the agency’s Cell and Gene Therapy Access Model beyond Genetix Biotherapeutics and Vertex’s sickle cell disease therapies. 🚨Exciting healthcare affordability news!!! 🚨 Patent thickets are a major obstacle to biosimilar drugs entering the market (which lower costs). Biologic medicines in particular are a massive cost driver of prescription drug spending for everyone, despite being used by less patients with less frequency than nonbiologic generics. Because loopholes in the patent process (federal law) are the problem here, allowing lawsuits to be structured en masse and sequentially in a massive delay tactic scam, only Congressional action can fix this problem. So this bipartisan bill is a long overdue policy solution that will absolutely lower drug prices on some of our most unaffordable drugs, leading to lower pharmaceutical spend by employers and ultimately lower healthcare costs for all. Kudos to @SenPeterWelch @HawleyMO @amyklobuchar @RepArrington!! Let’s all get behind them and get the Ethic Act passed!!!!
What's one of the biggest drivers of high drug prices? 🤔 Big drug company patent abuse. The P4AD-endorsed ETHIC Act would close a loophole drug companies exploit to block cheaper generics from coming to market and lowering costs for patients. CVS owns pharmacies, operates one of the country's largest PBMs, and controls a major health insurer. As Rep. Ocasio-Cortez explains, this kind of market concentration raises serious questions about competition, costs, and who benefits. Patients across the country are struggling to afford their medications. We need more transparency and accountability across the prescription drug supply chain to bring costs down.

There are several bipartisan bills in Congress right now that could help bring down the cost of prescription drugs. Drug companies deploy manipulative tactics to delay or block lower-cost competition to keep their prices high P4AD has been pushing for legislation to address some of Big Pharma’s patent schemes. Help us rein in the pharmaceutical industry’s monopoly power. Urge your Senators to support patent reform. Take action today by sending a letter! actionnetwork.org/letters/te…

Launch price of drugs jumped 35% between 2022-2025, after the Fifth Circuit rejected PhRMA’s challenge this summer, the group filed an en banc petition, and Maryland Gov. backed legislation allowing the state’s PDAB to set upper payment limits based on prices negotiated by Medicare. Big Pharma's abuse of the patent system has made it harder for generics and biosimilars to come to market to lower drug prices for patients, but the bipartisan Eliminating Thickets to Improve Competition (ETHIC) Act could help change that. The ETHIC Act addresses double patenting by allowing a generic manufacturer to challenge only one key patent in a patent family to invalidate duplicative patents. Helping to close a loophole that Big Pharma has relied on to block competition and keep prices artificially high. Big Pharma’s army of lobbyists is working to stop common-sense reforms like the ETHIC Act. Make sure they don’t get their way -- send a letter to your representative urging them to support ETHIC today: tinyurl.com/3bynbf37

💔 Patients like Beck shouldn't have to ration their insulin due to cost, and yet, stories like hers are all too common. Insulin is essential for people with diabetes, but many people with private insurance still face high out-of-pocket costs. The bipartisan INSULIN Act would cap monthly insulin costs at $35 for people with private insurance, helping make this lifesaving medication more affordable. Patients and families deserve to be heard. Write to your members of Congress and urge them to pass the INSULIN Act: actionnetwork.org/letters/te…

CBP announced that it is delaying a change in personal implementation requirements by 90 days, nearly 40% of FDA advisory meetings included patient representatives tied to Big Pharma-funded advocacy groups, and a new industry-backed bill would make it easier for certain biologic drugs to delay their eligibility for Medicare negotiation. 💔 Sa'Ra and her sister have been forced to share insulin because of the unaffordable price. This is unacceptable, yet stories like theirs are all too common. According to a 2024 report from T1International, nearly 37% of respondents reported rationing insulin due to cost. The bipartisan INSULIN Act would establish a $35 monthly out-of-pocket cap for insulin for people with private insurance, making this lifesaving medication more affordable and reducing barriers to care. Send a letter to your members of Congress today and urge them to pass the bipartisan INSULIN Act: actionnetwork.org/letters/te…

The Medication Affordability and Patent Integrity Act (S. 2658) would strengthen oversight of the patent system and close loopholes that delay competition. When competition enters the market, prices go down significantly. In fact, when there are six or more generic competitors on the market to compete with brand-name products, prices can fall by up to 95%. That’s why P4AD supports this bill. Write a letter to your Senator today in support of The Medication Affordability and Patent Integrity Act: actionnetwork.org/letters/te…

Humira is a great example of how big drug companies abuse the patent system to extend monopolies, avoid competition, and keep prices high. 9 in 10 Americans are urging Congress to do more to lower the cost of prescription drugs in the U.S. It’s time for Congress to rein in Big Pharma’s unchecked greed and help the millions of patients that have to skip or ration their meds due to their high cost.
