Apparently there’s a mushroom people eat in China that comes with one hell of a warning label:
Cook it thoroughly.
Not because it’ll kill you. Because if you don’t, there’s a decent chance you’ll start seeing tiny people.
And I mean tiny people.
Little human figures walking around the room, climbing furniture, moving through the environment like they belong there.
The mushroom is Lanmaoa asiatica. It’s eaten as food in Yunnan, and researchers have documented the hallucinations in people poisoned by improperly cooked specimens.
Here’s the part that sent me down the hole:
People keep seeing the same damn thing.
Not melting walls. Not psychedelic geometry. Little people.
Researchers still don’t know which compound in the mushroom causes it.
Maybe that’s just some bizarre circuit buried in the human brain that this mushroom happens to switch on.
Probably.
But between this and all the stories of DMT users meeting “entities,” I’m starting to wonder just how much of what we call reality is the world itself…
and how much is whatever channel the receiver happens to be tuned to.
