Report | Basic Services Support Human Capabilities: How water and electricity shape women’s livelihoods in South African townships PARI recently published a report that seeks to highlight the importance of gender- and domestic-conscious service delivery that recognises the dual role of women as both caregivers and owners of home-based enterprises (HBEs) operating from their homes. In this context, basic service provision must be reliable and affordable to support households that depend on these essential services for both domestic and livelihood purposes, thereby enabling the expansion of their capabilities. 🔗 Read the full report here: pari.org.za/report-basic-ser…

LGE 2026 | What does the Reviewed White Paper change? @SABCNews spoke to State Reform programme lead at PARI, Dr Sarah Meny-Gibert, about the impact of the reviewed white paper on local government. "As South Africa heads towards the Local Government Elections, the spotlight is firmly on the state of our municipalities... from service delivery and financial sustainability to accountability and capable leadership. Cabinet has now approved the reviewed White Paper on Local Government. But what does this mean beyond the policy document? What could actually change for residents and, crucially, how will we know whether those changes are working?" 🔗 Watch the full interview here: youtube.com/watch?v=kgQn0pLQ…

Press Statement | The Public Service Commission Act The Public Service Commission Act has just been signed into law. It provides more robust protections for the PSC’s independence, expands its mandate into local government, and bolsters its authority to direct executive authorities (including municipal managers) to respond to its findings in relation to the PSC’s Constitutionally enshrined mandate. This includes investigating personal practices against the Constitutional and regulatory frameworks and investigating grievances brought to it by public sector employees. 🔗 Read the full statement here: pari.org.za/press-statement-…
