Hello! I'm "PR Paul" Bistow. If you don't already know me from my puff pieces in the Peterborough paper, here's an image from my voting record to tell you more about me, it sums me up perfectly.

Polite reminder that between 2010 and just before COVID, the Tory government borrowed more than every other government before it, added together. Badenoch going on about debt is like the Tommy Robinson going on about racial harmony

📊 The 2016 Brexit electorate no longer exists. Peter Kellner has updated the sums using YouGov and ONS data. Since 2016: 🔹 Around 3.8m Leave voters have died, against 2.1m Remain voters. 🔹 Around 7m new voters have reached voting age, overwhelmingly pro-European. 🔹 Around 5m voters have changed their minds 👉roughly three-quarters of them moving from Leave to Rejoin. His estimate of how Britain would vote now: 🇪🇺 REJOIN: 20.0m 👉 63% 🇬🇧 STAY OUT: 11.8m 👉 37% A majority of almost 9 million. Brexit happened. Britain has lived with it for a decade. But democracy does not freeze the electorate in 2016 forever. The question is what Britain wants now not what it indicated in 2016.
📊 The Brexit majority hasn’t just slipped 👉it’s vanished. Completely. This chart from Peter Kellner/YouGov shows: • 5 million 2016 voters have died • New young voters back Rejoin by 5:1 • 29% of Leave voters now want to rejoin • Net result: Rejoin 19.8m vs Stay Out 11.7m ➡️ An 8 MILLION majority for Rejoin. Britain is now a pro-EU country. The only people keeping Brexit alive are politicians who benefit from the damage.

Well would you believe it, after years of not doing so, @paulbristow79 has retweeted a poll! Because his lot have overtaken Reform ... He's still not made any comment about Brexit though, he even "forgot" about the tenth anniversary of the vote. Maybe he's changed his mind..

One of the central falsehoods of UK politics is that we are highly taxed - put simply, we aren't. Here are the top 10 taxed nations, the UK isn't even in the top 20! The list of happiest nations, the annual survey is highly regarded, is virtually identical. So whilst Finns, Danes & Swedes pay a lot of tax, they get so much more back in public services than Brits or Americans. We should all be paying more tax, the wealthiest, much more.

Maybe the paid off mortgage Reform cohort are realising getting back in the EU means the option of retiring to Spain or France with a load of equity in the bank comes back...

When UK-EU negotiations begin, the starting point won't be "look what's in our treaty and take it from there". It will be "look, we both want this to happen. What can we both sell to the home audience?" Brexiters project-fearing about the euro and Schengen are truly desperate

Quite apart from the fact that neither of those items are a condition of single market membership, which is a great landing point anyway. Economic benefits, freedoms restored (and bestowed in those who were too young to have a say last time).

The pivot from "they need us more than we need them" to "we're powerless against a treaty that's already got loads of opt-outs in it" only exhibits the desperation of those still wed to being worse off for some reason.

🚨 The end of Brexit begins. Asked whether Labour could fight the next election on reversing Brexit, @andyburnham did not rule it out. He said it was a question “for another day”. That may sound cautious, but it breaks Westminster’s conspiracy of silence. The Brexit elephant 🐘 in the room finally confronted. EU membership is no longer being dismissed as impossible, undemocratic or permanently settled. It is returning to legitimate democratic debate. For now, Burnham wants practical agreements and inclusion in “Made in Europe”. But Britain cannot spend forever pleading for exceptions from the consequences of being outside. The next election must offer the country a genuine route back, first to the Single Market and Customs Union, and ultimately to full EU membership.
