'Ulm 5': What the Trial Reveals About Germany's Palestine Solidarity Crackdown PREMIERING NOW: youtu.be/5ROhgF2_f2s Five Palestine solidarity activists are facing trial in Germany following an action at an Israeli arms manufacturer's facility in September 2025. The activists, known as the Ulm Five, allegedly entered an Elbit Systems site in Ulm, southwest Germany, where they damaged equipment and spray-painted the building. The incident reportedly caused around €1 million in damage. No one was injured, and the five activists remained at the site to await arrest. More than a year later, all five remain in pre-trial detention as proceedings continue. The trial, which began in April, has faced a series of legal challenges, including allegations of judicial bias and disputes over expert witnesses. The prosecution has charged the defendants with criminal damage, trespass and membership of a criminal organisation. Prosecutors also argue that the action was motivated by antisemitism, while the defence maintains that it was intended to prevent a greater crime, pointing to Elbit Systems' involvement in Israel's military operations in Gaza. @nidaj__

Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, and Eyal Weizman, founder of Forensic Architecture, join Palestine Deep Dive’s Ahmed Alnaouq and Jehan Alfarra to examine the destruction of Gaza, the silencing of Palestinian journalists, and the growing struggle to hold those responsible to account. "And If Sydney Sweeney Converts to Judaism?" The Green Party of England and Wales voted to adopt a motion declaring Zionism a form of racism and calling for Palestinian liberation and a single democratic state with justice and equality for all. It is the first mainstream UK party to take that position. But in almost all of the coverage that followed, one group has been strikingly absent from the conversation: Palestinians. At Palestine Deep Dive, we host a roundtable of Palestinians to discuss the ideology that has shaped every part of their lives. We ask: What is Zionism? And why do we believe it to be racist? Ahmed Alnaouq speaks to Hala Hanina, Shahd Hammouri and Hazem Jamjoum in a wide-ranging conversation about the history, ideology and politics surrounding Palestine; from the Balfour Declaration to Gaza and from Christian Zionism to British politics. @fightapartheid | Shahd Hammouri | @HalaHanina | @AlnaouqA

“I don't feel defensive. I feel offensive,” Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Benjamin Moser, author of Anti-Zionism: A Jewish History, tells Palestine Deep Dive. “I have nothing but loathing and contempt for the people and the institutions that have allowed a genocide to happen in my name, with my money,” he continues. Discussing the Green Party of England and Wales' approach to shifting the conversation around Israel and Palestine, following the adoption of its motion declaring Zionism to be racism, Irish journalist and commentator Barry Malone observes: “The Greens were bumping the Overton window… I think they're through it now.” "I very much hope that they won't backtrack," Moser adds. "I think it would be really devastating if they did. But again, I don't think they need to dig their heels in with this. If I were the Green Party, I would just say, yeah, next question, because, yeah, of course Zionism is racism. Moving along, what's your next question? Because otherwise, you get stuck in this rhetorical quicksand where you're always defensive." @BenMoser123 | @malonebarry | @AlnaouqA

“Erasing All Traces of Palestinian Life” In this difficult and unflinching conversation, Palestine Deep Dive's Jehan Alfarra and Ahmed Alnaouq are joined by Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, and Eyal Weizman, founder of Forensic Architecture, to examine the destruction of Gaza, the silencing of Palestinian journalists, and the growing struggle to hold those responsible to account. Francesca Albanese discusses her report A Truth Under the Rubble, exploring the targeting of Palestinian journalists, the suppression of information, and the role of international media in shaping narratives about Israel’s war on Gaza. She explains why the destruction of evidence, the killing of witnesses, and the removal of physical traces raise profound questions about accountability and the international community’s obligations. Eyal Weizman, author of Ungrounding: The Architecture of Genocide, examines how the transformation of Gaza’s landscape threatens not only physical evidence but also Palestinian memory, identity, and the possibility of return. Through the work of Forensic Architecture, he explores how satellite imagery, witness testimony, and the built environment can help reconstruct what has happened, even as the landscape itself is being erased. The conversation also tackles the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the International Criminal Court (ICC), US sanctions against international justice officials, arms transfers, and the responsibilities of governments under international law and the Genocide Convention. @FranceskAlbs | @weizman_eyal | @AlnaouqA | @j_alfarra

“Israel is a Jewish state. We should take it because God commanded us to take it” In an interview with The Guardian outside an election rally for Itamar Ben-Gvir, Cherut Moledet, a young Israeli and aspiring social media influencer, said Israel should annex and settle Gaza and advance the displacement of its Palestinian population “or we’ll kill them.” “Completely carpet bomb them, entirely. There shouldn’t have been a living soul there,” she added. Speaking to Palestine Deep Dive, Irish journalist and commentator Barry Malone described the exchange as a "mask off moment in a whole series of mask off moments since the genocide began." "It puts the lie to the notion that you often see in the Western media that this is somehow Netanyahu's war." @malonebarry | @benjaminfmoser | @AlnaouqA

Lubna Speitan, British-Palestinian artist and activist who co-drafted and led the Zionism is Racism motion adopted by the Green Party of England and Wales, has challenged the use of the IHRA definition of antisemitism to silence criticism of Israel and Palestinian voices. “Our lives, as Palestinians, have been vilified and dehumanised as though we're so cheap, we don't matter. Our children don't matter,” she said during a press conference convened by Greens for Palestine earlier this week.  “We were not the persecutors of the Jews and should not be made to pay a price for the crimes of Europe.” @malonebarry | @benjaminfmoser | @AlnaouqA

"The Great Taboo of Western Media" Irish journalist and commentator Barry Malone and Pulitzer Prize-winning American writer Benjamin Moser, author of Anti-Zionism: A Jewish History, join Palestine Deep Dive for a wide-ranging discussion on Zionism, anti-Zionism, media complicity and the language shaping public debate around Israel and Palestine. Drawing on the history of Jewish opposition to Zionism, the conversation explores Britain’s role in the Zionist movement, the politics of antisemitism and the silencing of dissent. They also examine the Green Party’s recent adoption of its “Zionism is Racism” motion and the debate it has sparked. With Israeli elections bringing renewed attention to Benjamin Netanyahu, the discussion also addresses whether a change of prime minister would address the deeper questions of Palestinian self-determination and equal rights. @malonebarry | @benjaminfmoser | @AlnaouqA
