Had a very insightful fireside chat with @DrQureshiH addl secretary @MHI_GoI on how to make India’s EV ecosystem resilient and globally competitive without subsidies in the future.
Speaking at the Autocar Professional India EV Conclave 2026, Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), highlighted India’s accelerating transition towards electric mobility, emphasising indigenisation, research and development, and domestic manufacturing, while underscoring the need to give greater attention to charging infrastructure, financing and taxation challenges. He highlighted the role of key government initiatives, including the PM E-DRIVE Scheme, PLI-Auto Scheme and PM-eBus Sewa Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) Scheme, in supporting the growth of India’s electric mobility ecosystem. These schemes, along with the adoption of best practices, have played a significant role in the growth of India’s EV market and the deeper localisation of EV components, thereby strengthening domestic capabilities and enhancing global competitiveness. He also complimented the automotive industry for its continued focus on innovation, the launch of new products and the growth of exports, recognising these efforts as important drivers of India’s expanding automotive ecosystem and global competitiveness. Highlighting MHI’s Rare Earth Permanent Magnets (REPM) Scheme, the Additional Secretary stated that the scheme would strengthen India’s domestic capabilities and promote the manufacturing of REPMs in the country. With the development of a robust critical supply chain, India could begin producing rare-earth magnets within the next one to two years. He further emphasised that greater investment in R&D, robust charging infrastructure and improved access to financing would be crucial for the next phase of EV growth. He noted that expanding into major international markets presents significant opportunities for India’s automotive industry. These efforts will contribute to building an Aatmanirbhar, innovative and globally competitive automotive industry. #MHI #ElectricMobility #PMEDRIVE #PLIAuto #MakeInIndia #AatmanirbharBharat #EVConclave2026 @DrQureshiH @autocarpro @hormazdsorabjee

.@mieknathshinde The sad state of Mumbai's infrastructure should offend you more than @kunalkamra88's jokes. I'm offended that people like you are our leaders. We deserve better. You're a disgrace.
