Since launching this matching campaign, 37 people have donated a total of $2,499. So that has been matched by the donor group with another $2,499. The overall campaign is now at $38K of $50K! Can we pass $40K by tomorrow morning? Just need $1K in donations and it'll get doubled.
Fundraising for our legal defence has reached $33K of the $50K goal(!!). Donations have slowed a bit, so a few people have stepped up to create a spark, committing to match every donation dollar-for-dollar until Sunday, up to a total of $5,000. To give: thegrindmag.ca/support-the-g…

Sinai Health, which treats a multitude of patients from diverse backgrounds, declined to comment on the particulars in this case but said it prioritized patient safety and underlined its focus on keeping a respectful workplace. If you value local reporting pls support the Star.

Dr. Kavita Algu resigned from Mt. Sinai Hospital after feeling she was unfairly targeted for her Palestinian advocacy. I leaned on internal reports, notes, emails, interviews with staff etc. to investigate. A gift link to read the story without paywall: thestar.com/gift-redeem?t=2a…

Neutrality isn't only abandoned in disciplinary decisions. It's embedded in institutional culture. This is an antenatal unit at Mount Sinai. "Am Israel Chai Antenatal Unit." Imagine being a Palestinian parent walking into that space.

An important investigation by @ShreeParadkar in the Toronto Star reveals how Dr. @KavitaAlguMD, a palliative care doctor at Mount Sinai Hospital, was pushed to resign after being “unfairly targeted by management for her Palestinian advocacy.” Meanwhile, a pro-Israel doctor who had publicly attacked her and engaged in repeated anti-Palestinian commentary had complaints against him dismissed. This is just one example of the double standards and discrimination against Palestine advocacy within Canadian institutions. We must confront anti-Palestinian racism wherever it occurs. thestar.com/news/investigati…

The pro-Israel backlash to a museum exhibit about Palestinian experiences of dispossession, and the dominance of those perspectives across media coverage, has illustrated the very problem that this exhibit is helping to address. This exhibit is a rare example of Canadian Palestinians having a role in how their stories are told, without being vetoed by those who support their oppression.
A Winnipeg woman whose family is among those featured in a controversial exhibit on the displacement of Palestinians at the CMHR says she was disappointed the ensuing public discussion focused so much on what non-Palestinians think the exhibit should say. cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/…

⭕️ Two Israeli female soldiers photographed themselves posing beside a young, blindfolded Palestinian detainee who appears to be a minor and proudly posted the image on Instagram. The post, which circulated widely online and was reviewed by Drop Site News, was uploaded by Israeli soldier Nikol Stelmashvski as part of a 20-photo carousel containing additional images from her time in Gaza. Her account [@ nikol.stel, IG] has since been made private after the photo drew public backlash. The image is the latest in a documented pattern of Israeli soldiers publicly sharing evidence of Palestinian detainees being humiliated or abused. Such conduct violates international humanitarian law, which prohibits the degrading treatment of detainees.

The Grind has been FEARLESS in its coverage of the Palestine solidarity movement in Toronto, as well as the pro-Israel backlash. Now, this small, local publication is being sued by an IDF reservist. Chip in to support indie journalism:
