We have received with sadness news of the passing in Sussex of Mary Pat Butterfield, a grand niece of CS Parnell through his sister Theodosia. Mary Pat took a great pride in her Parnell connections. Our condolences to her family and friends. RIP

Lovely to see the meeting held at Avondale. The @ParnellSS will mark Ivy Day (the anniversary of Parnell’s death) this coming weekend with a symposium on Saturday in Avondale and a wreath laying at Parnell’s grave on Sunday.

Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Martin Mansergh. Martin was a long-time friend of the Parnell Society and spoke at our events on several occasions, most recently Ivy Day 2023. Suaimhneas sioraí dó. Heartfelt sympathy to the Mansergh family.
Date for the diary: Parnell Ivy Day Symposium 4-5 October at Avondale and Glasnevin. Marking the 150th anniversary of Parnell’s first election to Parliament (and the 250th of O’Connell’s birth), the theme of the symposium will be Elections & Electoral Politics past and present.
The 134th annual Ivy Day commemoration will take place in Glasnevin Cemetery at 12.00 noon on Sunday 5 October 2025. The wreath will be laid and the oration delivered by former President of Ireland, Mary McAleese.
