Fear is not a by product of the violence in the West Bank: it is one of its goals.
Israel is systematically killing, injuring, imprisoning, torturing and forcibly displacing Palestinians on a massive scale. These are not isolated incidents or spontaneous attacks by extremist settlers, but part of a deliberate mechanism of control and oppression designed to intimidate the entire Palestinian population, disrupt their lives and drive them off their land. This is how the system is structured, and how it has operated for decades.
This violence is carried out by different arms of the same system: the military, police, Shin Bet (ISA), Israel’s Prison Service, and settler militias. The military bombs residential areas, demolishes homes, kills Palestinians and forcibly displaces them. In prisons, Palestinians are subjected to torture and abuse. Meanwhile, the state supports settler militias and provides them with the necessary infrastructure to operate, while soldiers protect them and sometimes participate in their attacks on Palestinians. These are not separate actors: they are part of a single mechanism, operating with institutional backing and almost complete impunity granted by the law enforcement system. Impunity is not a failure of the system. It’s how the system works.
Since October 2023, this violence has escalated dramatically. According to B’Tselem’s figures, From October 7, 2023, until September 21, 2026, Israel killed 1,116 Palestinians in the West Bank, including 245 children and teenagers The ripple effect is enormous. Any Palestinian in the West Bank who leaves home in the morning, drives along a road or works farmland is constantly calculating the risks involved.
That is the goal of the mechanism of violence and intimidation: to make life impossible for Palestinians in the West Bank, drive them off their land and dismantle the conditions for their existence as a collective. It is one of the five mechanisms Israel is employing in its Elimination Project.

Since October 2023, as part of the genocide in the Gaza Strip, Israel has killed more than 74,000 people, forcibly displaced some 1.9 million Palestinians, and destroyed and erased entire cities off the face of the earth.
Since the beginning of September, Israel has killed 106 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, including at least 17 children and teenagers.
Since the “ceasefire” was declared in October 2025, Israel has killed around 1,421 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, including at least 300 children and teenagers.
Israel continues to kill, restrict the entry of humanitarian aid and deny access to water and food as a method of warfare, while blocking every attempt to repair the catastrophic damage and restore vital systems.
The genocide continues.

Director of Public Outreach for @btselem, @Parnes82 joined @DeanObeidallah, explaining how extremists at the top of Israeli government has fueled the violence against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

A decade ago, Elor Azaria shot and killed ‘Abd al-Fatah al-Sharif in Hebron after al-Sharif had attacked a soldier. Al-Sharif was lying wounded on the ground and no longer posed any danger. A B’Tselem volunteer filmed the incident, which led to the opening of an investigation.
Azaria was convicted of manslaughter and conduct unbecoming. He was sentenced to just 18 months in prison - a sentence that was later reduced by the Israel army Chief of Staff. In the end, he served only nine months before being released.
Today, Herzog, the President of Israel decided that Azaria’s criminal record will be expunged.
When we at B’Tselem say that any Israeli who harms a Palestinian enjoys full impunity - this is what we mean.

"All this didn't start with the current Israeli government, and it didn't begin on October 7th. Over time the methods have changed, the scale changed, but the direction remained. In the West Bank apartheid remains the central legal framework for understanding the Israeli regime and the crimes committed to maintain it", said Yuli Novak, B’Tselem’s Executive Director, at the launch of our new report The Elimination Project.
A checkpoint. A community forced from its land. A farmer unable to reach his fields. An economy pushed further into crisis. A journalist arrested. These may look like separate events. B’Tselem’s new report shows that they are interconnected parts of the same system.

How much more evidence do you need before you act?
Watch: Yuli Novak, B’Tselem’s Executive Director, speaking at the launch of our new report, The Elimination Project, and calling on the international community to act:
“How much more evidence do you need before you act? Statements do not protect anyone until they become action. Every day without meaningful action gives Israel more time to deepen this project and make it harder to reverse.”
The Elimination Project shows how Israel is systematically using interconnected mechanisms: violence, displacement, restrictions on movement, economic strangulation and political repression to dismantle the conditions that allow Palestinians to exist as a collective in the West Bank, while expanding and entrenching Israeli control and Jewish supremacy.
The international community must stop treating these isolated violations and end the impunity that allows this system to continue.

Israel is dismantling Palestinian collective life in the West Bank.
A catastrophe is unfolding across the West Bank. Checkpoints, expulsions, killings and land takeovers are not separate events or isolated human rights violations. They are part of the same system. It is time to connect the dots.
Our new report, The Elimination Project, shows how these mechanisms form one political project: dismantling Palestinian collective life while expanding Israeli control and Jewish presence.
Since late 2022, and especially since October 2023, this process has accelerated and become more openly violent. Palestinians live under constant threat from soldiers and armed settler militias. Since 7 October 2023, Israel has killed 1,107 Palestinians, including 245 children. State-backed settler farms and outposts seize vast areas, communities are expelled, and movement restrictions fragment Palestinian space.
Israel is also strangling the Palestinian economy, criminalizing political and social organizing, shutting down civil society organizations and arresting journalists and activists.
Together, these mechanisms cut Palestinians off from land, livelihoods and one another, dismantling the conditions they need to exist as a people – with institutions, leadership, shared history and a political future.
The Elimination Project is not new. Its logic has shaped Israeli policy for decades through dispossession, fragmentation, military rule and apartheid. In 2017, Bezalel Smotrich published the “Decisive Plan,” centered on making Jewish-Israeli control irreversible. It gives Palestinians three options: relinquish their collective aspirations and live under Jewish supremacy, leave, or face military repression. Under the current government, central elements of this vision are being translated into policy, budgets, powers and practices. In Gaza, this logic has reached its most extreme manifestation: the genocide Israel is committing there.
The international community must stop treating Israel’s violence and violations as isolated incidents, stop enabling Israel’s crimes, and end the impunity that allows the Elimination Project to continue.
Connect the dots. See the system.

“What we are seeing in Qusrah is happening throughout the West Bank. Israel is ethnically cleansing the West Bank.” says Shai Parnes @Parnes82, B’Tselem public outreach director, on @BBCWorld.
Over the past few days, settlers have established an outpost in the yards of two Palestinian homes on the outskirts of Qusrah, near Nablus. Their objective is clear: to force the families out and take over their homes.
Last month, the military enabled settlers to force the Tubasi family in Jalud from their homes following a siege and repeated violence. The settlers then took over their homes, as is happening now in many villages across the West Bank, including Ein Sinya, Turmus Ayya, al-Mas’udiyah, Beita, Abu Falah, and many others.
Since October 2023, Israel has forcibly displaced 64 entire Palestinian communities and parts of 15 additional communities, comprising more than 4,800 people, including over 2,300 minors.
Settler militias, backed by the Israeli military, are continuing the ethnic cleansing of the West Bank and expanding their attacks to the outskirts of larger Palestinian villages and towns. They are seizing surrounding agricultural land, carrying out violent raids, attacking residents, and increasingly forcing Palestinian families from their homes and taking over those homes.
