Lovely work from Philip as always. Thoughtful and impassioned (as it should be) and got me a bit yappy. Enjoyed this bit that I treated like a diagnosis: “Are there problems related to music? Sure. That’s why we have piano teachers, conservatories, YouTube tutorials, copyright lawyers” which gets to the how/why of so many older artists treating AI like a savior. This morning Todd Edwards (THE legend!) posted a whole video [instagram.com/reel/Dd_um_gNY…] about how he now uses a certain AI app to generate vocals/samples without the "burden" of sample clearance. And I see this a lot with older artists, businesspeople etc. "Oh AI fixes this one thing that I personally don't like doing" Whether it's flyer design, legal paperwork, emails, etc. They've been burned by people/systems in the past, and as a result have turned to these kinds of technical solutions. However, they aren't willing to put in the same work to make the machines sing on the frontend, or to make it equitable/etc on the backend. I feel that every technological advance has a time where people can stake a claim and do it right. Now's the time and a half-ass house beat ain't it.
