New algorithm, who dis?
I'm Patrick. I run Big Sky Fulfillment — a 3PL shipping for ecommerce brands out of 3 warehouses (Montana, North Carolina, Vegas).
Started in 2015 when I ran a subscription box company and couldn't find a 3PL that cared about our inventory. So I built one.
5 million shipments later, we're still at it — DTC, B2B, retail, and subscription for brands that make their own products.
Off the clock: dad, longtime Scouting volunteer, and currently building my third boat.
I post about what actually happens inside warehouses — the handoffs, the screwups, the fixes. And probably the boats.
It's great having clients who also have kids. We're both naturally working at 9pm on a random Thursday.
Been trying to get a high score on Box Cutter Ningja from Ship Something Fulfillment Box 3PL... productivity is down so much this week. Thanks @kyle_benton 🙄
At a bounce house place for my daughter's friend's birthday party... Does anyone else walk into these establishments and automatically think about daily throughput and rent rates?
Always fun to be invited back to my alma mater to guest lecture. Spent time with the Logistics and Supply Chain class chatting about going from my spare bedroom to 3 warehouses, AI, and creating high trust teams. #gogriz
Switching 3PLs in late October is like moving houses the week before you host Thanksgiving.
Technically possible. Deeply unwise. But, we can handle it and have many times in the past.
It amazes me when vendors continue charges without their services being used... @aftership
Someone suggested I use a picture of me holding a trout for LinkedIn. I said no and found they were unaware this is a stereotype for Tinder profiles in Montana. I don't know how many Claude tokens they used to find the highest recurring photo in many states and cities.
New York City — Manhattan finance or law headshot; Brooklyn plant parent or musician; rooftop photo; "Queens is really only 20 minutes away"; constant debate over whether crossing a river counts as long-distance dating.
Utah — Skiing, mountain biking and red-rock photos. Profiles often state religious status unusually clearly: active LDS, culturally LDS, ex-LDS or definitely not LDS.
Montana and Wyoming — Man holding a trout; elk or hunting photo; pickup truck; cowboy hat; dog in the mountains.
One year you row 70 miles in 34 hours... The next you struggle with 2k. Time to get disciplined again.
A Kaizen is a structured working session to improve a process. We did one with a footwear brand around receiving, B2B prep, and DTC prep.
Each side didn't have all the answers or all of the problems, but both teams could see the intersections of our respective processes clearly enough to improve them.
