🔴 These deals are welcome but they remain Brexit repair, not the European strategy Britain needs.
And this sentence is alarming:
⚠️ “I will not run ahead of public opinion.”
🚩 That repeats Starmer’s failure. Political leadership is not hiding behind the electorate to avoid confronting reality. @AndyBurnham should publish the evidence, explain the choices and lead.
The November summit must be the moment Britain starts scrapping its Brexit red lines.
Trump destroyed the fantasy of a free-trading “Global Britain” by embracing tariffs and protectionism. Now American voters have delivered a crushing rejection of Trumpism itself.
There is no justification left for British appeasement or continued isolation.
Burnham has the economic evidence and the political opening. He must end Britain’s failed Brexit experiment and lead us back into Europe.

The Tories were so blinded by their hatred of the EU - we ended up tangled in post Brexit red tape, the total cost of that - £5 Billion a year. Yes the opposite to what the Brexit camp claimed (less red tape, easier exporting, they need us more than we need them...).
Labour with its pragmatic approach will fix this.
Good news.

After the referendum, the BBC chief Lord Hall ordered the BBC to treat Brexit as a done deal, a decision which all but wholly excluded Remainer opinion from the BBC for over 2 years, thus grossly biasing the debate. It was a grotesque abuse of democracy.

Brexit was won by the worst abuses of democracy in modern British history. This was just one of them.

Without the apparent support of the BBC they'd have been laughed off stage a year ago.
Give up and go away Farage, far, far away.

The poppy is a quiet symbol of remembrance. It is NOT a pay & display item to prove you’re more patriotic than others, a photo opportunity or a competition. Wear it quietly, or not all but please do donate, that’s the important part, not this performative, opportunistic wankery.

James Cleverly’s claim that the UK couldn’t cut VAT because we were in the EU is wrong.
In 2008, while the UK was an EU member, the government cut standard VAT from 17.5% to 15%.
And in July 2020, during the Brexit transition period, the government cut VAT to 5% on certain hospitality and tourism services. EU rules allowed reduced rates on eligible services.
Covid and the war in Ukraine make Brexit’s precise economic impact harder to isolate. They don’t make it impossible to estimate: the OBR still forecasts that the UK’s post-Brexit trading relationship will reduce long-run productivity by 4% compared with staying in the EU.

Brexit was like walking out of your home for good on a warm, sunny day with no coat, no food and no supplies because you assumed the weather would never change.
Then the storms came: Covid, Ukraine, Iran/Hormuz, climate extremes
A decade later, Britain has discovered what happens when a country strips away its resilience.
🔥 The IFS says the 2020s are on course to be the worst decade for household income growth since records began in 1950.
Typical working-age household incomes are forecast to FALL by another £1,050 by 2028-29.
Britain cannot rebate its way out of this.

Very enjoyable evening in Warwick with an audience clearly supporting the idea that Brexit was a disaster and net zero is the only way to go. Nice of @libdemdaisy to be there on her birthday! We all drank to her health afterwards apart from @ZiaYusufUK who legged it with his status symbol bodyguard. Fascinating to see how he did not make a single positive argument for Brexit. They never do. He has lovely shoes though, but a very weak handshake which is never a good sign in anyone.
