Last year union membership rose by nearly 200,000.
I’m confident new union access rights that come into force today will help open membership to hundreds of thousands more workers.

We are urging Gordon Brothers to protect the livelihoods of 11,000 people.
Poundland’s future currently hangs in the balance as the majority owners refused a solvent bid from Martin Property group, which increased the probability that the business could fall into administration.
This is not acceptable - Gordon Brothers must prioritise a unified buyer and protect their workers now.

📣 John Lewis Partnership enters into collective agreement with Usdaw
Joanne Thomas, Usdaw General Secretary:
"We are delighted to secure a recognition agreement with such an iconic retailer as the John Lewis Partnership, which includes Waitrose supermarkets. Usdaw already has members working within the business and this agreement will strengthen that presence and help us in supporting and representing members across the Partnership. We now look forward to growing our membership and influence within the Partnership and to working with the Partnership's management on finalising the details of how the agreement will work in practice. Trade unions have a positive impact in the workplace, providing staff with support, advice and representation, while giving them a collective voice, and we urge other retailers to follow the lead of John Lewis Partnership by engaging with us.”
