🚨Our Review in Nature just got published on "Designing physics experiments with artificial intelligence" nature.com/articles/s41586-0… Experiments are our way to ask questions to the Universe. Using AI, we have now enormously powerful techniques to find new questions that are too unintuitive and "weird" for humans to find based on their experience and intuition. AI however can explore the space of all possibilities in a completely different way, thus can discover very different solutions. We overview this ability in vastly diverse the fields of physics: quantum optics, light & electron microscopy, gravitational wave physics, high-energy physics, neutrino physics, matter wave physics. For myself this is very special: 12 years after building the first automated design algorithms in quantum experiments, being able to overview the development of the field with my group and friends was an exciting opportunity. Thank you a lot to @PhylomatX for spear-heading this! Thanks a lot to @soerenarlt @cruizgo_ @carlardrguez96 @GuXuemei Philipp Haslinger, @pietrovischia Christian Haack, Yehonathan Drori, @RanaXAdhikari Markus Arndt, Michael Kagan, @lukasheinrich_ for helping developing this Review, bringing insights from so many different directions of physics. So excited about what will happen in the next years! #AI4Science

"What develops is a portrait of a restless young scholar, prone to diving deep into a subject only to lose interest, until a letter, a conversation, or a visit would rekindle his interest." looks interesting... press.princeton.edu/books/ha…

Worth reading...
This is the most remarkable story Ray Bradbury ever shared with me. He told it late at nigh, sitting in his den of antiquities and mementos. Take five minutes to read this. It’s pure magic. #Writing #Living #Creativity #RayBradbury #Book

My most recent paper, accepted today in the Astrophysical journal, examines an unusual population of quiescent galaxies at a time of furious star-formation. The work was led by Vaidik Prasal of @IISERPune working with me, for his master's thesis project. yogeshw.github.io/blog/blog/…

Hiren Kakkad gave four lectures on "An On-Shell Approach to Massless Quantum Field Theories: Scattering Amplitudes and Quantum Anomalies" at IITM that I recorded with his permission. The course has a webpage sgovindarajan.wikidot.com/am… This has other material from the lectures.

A scientist connecting to another scientist, at an intellectual ground state, is a human connecting with a fellow human being.... an underappreciated aspect of doing science
Many years ago, Rafael Sorkin was visiting RRI Bangalore. I was a PhD student at the time. I travelled from Chennai to Bangalore to talk quantum gravity with him. When I met them, his wife Fatma greeted me with "Oh you are the guy who travelled all this way to meet Rafael!" I thought: who would not, to meet a genius! Rafael was very generous with his time and over the next couple of days we had a long conversations about causal sets, other approaches to quantum gravity, and foundations of quantum theory. Rafael was a deep thinker and it was an amazing experience.

If you’ve ever produced a tone by blowing a stream of air across the mouth of a bottle, you’ve used what’s known as a Helmholtz resonator. Now researchers have found a way to harness that resonance effect to propel miniature boats and aircraft. #physics #acoustics physicstoday.aip.org/news/ti…

While we were digesting the AI-and-math developments, I was immersed in this beautiful "human story of the mathematical achievement of proving Serre's (modularity) conjecture". Coming soon to a Science Education Journal near you: a book review.
