Day 4 of the 2026 National Pension Week (NPW) brought together industry leaders, policymakers and stakeholders for the highly anticipated **National Pension Summit and Awards Night** — an evening dedicated to celebrating excellence, innovation, leadership and outstanding contributions to Nigeria's pension industry.
The 2026 National Pension Awards recognised individuals, organisations and states whose commitment and achievements continue to strengthen the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and advance pension administration in Nigeria.
Among this year's distinguished awardees were:
👏 Secretary to the Government of the Federation – Distinguished Award for Excellence in Pension Sector Leadership and Support.

NPW 2026 | DAY 4 NATIONAL PENSION SUMMIT HIGHLIGHTS
“A PENSION IS NOT A PRIVILEGE FOR THE FEW. IT IS A RIGHT WITHIN REACH OF ALL”
At the National Pension Summit 2026, the PenCom Director General @Omololabo )’s keynote highlighted key milestones and priorities shaping the future of pensions in Nigeria, from growing pension assets to expanding coverage and strengthening retirement protection.
Key points from the DG's keynote:
• Pension assets: ₦20.79trn (July 2024) to ₦31.8trn (August 2026)
• President approves the first ever Exit Benefit for FG treasury-funded MDA retirees; symbolic cheque presented today
• 3 million additional funded active accounts targeted in the next year.
• 10 November 2026: President launches PenCare and the Minimum Pension Guarantee.
• Call to the private sector to join the FG and the industry in funding the Pension Protection Fund, and to the industry to deliver competitive real returns above inflation.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to pensioners’ dignity, the settlement of outstanding pension liabilities, and stronger retirement security. Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume @SGFAkume , at the National Pension Summit, the President described pension entitlements as earned rights, not government favours.
He emphasised the need for prudent pension fund management, stronger regulatory oversight, timely remittance of pension contributions, and expanded pension coverage. He also reaffirmed the importance of sustained reforms and collaboration among stakeholders to protect contributors’ funds, improve retirement outcomes, and ensure that Nigerian workers and retirees receive the benefits they have earned.
