New York City is preparing for one of the busiest holiday weekends in recent months, as thousands of New Yorkers and visitors gather to celebrate America's 250th anniversary, the Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks, and the FIFA World Cup. While there are currently no specific or credible threats, everyone attending major events should expect an increased security presence, security screenings, and bag checks. New Yorkers should also expect significant street closures, heavy traffic, and increased congestion around Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn, the FDR Drive, the Brooklyn Bridge, the West Side Highway, and other event areas throughout the weekend. We strongly encourage everyone to use public transportation, allow extra travel time, and check MTA.info and july4.events.nyc before traveling. As our city is in the midst of a dangerous heat wave, we also encourage everyone to visit nyc.gov/beattheheat and make a heat plan before going outside, including identifying the nearest cooling center to your destination.  A little planning goes a long way.
