Ker Kwaro Acholi..Apwoyo matek
At a historic event today,I signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ker Kwaro Acholi, the cultural institution of the Acholi people at the cheifdom headquartered in Gulu City, Northern Uganda headed by HRH Rwot David Onen Achana II, the Paramount Chief of Acholi.
This is the beginning of a long term partnership between ULS and the cheifdom which establishes a framework for collaboration to bridge the access-to-justice gap & promote the rule of law in Acholi sub- region.

This was at the heart of the discussions at the 4th Women Land Rights Conference, where FIDA-Uganda was honoured to host a panel discussion on “𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑨𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝑱𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑾𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏’𝒔 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒚 𝑹𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔.”
The panel featured Lady Justice Jane Alividza of the Lands Division of the High Court, @JudiciaryUG; Ms. Hilda Akabwai, a lawyer and expert in land governance and gender; Ms. @SBaluka, the Strategic Interest Litigation Manager at FIDA-Uganda; and Mr. John Mwebe, a land rights advocate. The discussion, moderated by Mr. Jonathan Ochom.🎙️
Held in the spirit of the #InternationalDayofRuralWomen, the discussion explored barriers to women’s land ownership and inheritance, highlighting the need to bridge the gap between legal protections and women’s lived realities. 💡

#TBT | Earlier this month, the team at FIDA-Uganda had the opportunity to meet with the Commissioner in Charge of Subsidiary Legislation in the Directorate of the First Parliamentary Counsel, under the Office of the Solicitor General, @MoJCAUG. 🏢
The meeting provided a platform for FIDA-Uganda to engage with the Office of the Solicitor General and gain insight into how we can work with different stakeholders and duty bearers, to make our legislative advocacy interventions more effective in terms of advancing the rights of the communities that we serve, across different thematic areas of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), Access to Justice and Women's Economic Empowerment.
We thank the Office of the Solicitor General for hosting us, and for the effectiveness with which they responded to our inquiries into the enactment of subsidiary legislation, which is key to combating the social drivers of violence against women and children in the Karamoja and West Nile regions. 🤝
