Thank you, Vancouver. 💙 The result wasn't what I’d hoped for, but I'm heartened to hear that more people voted in this municipal election. I fell just short of the top 10, but I'm deeply grateful to the more than 50,000 people who placed their trust in me. Serving on council was an incredible honour and privilege, and something I will always remember fondly. Congratulations to Mayor-Elect Pete Fry and every councillor taking on the responsibility and privilege of serving our city. Special thanks to Clr. Mike Klassen, who will keep carrying our team's flag on council. To my fellow candidates, Mayor Ken Sim, who was the genesis of ABC, our dedicated volunteers and supporters, and our talented campaign staff: thank you. I care deeply about this city. I'll be watching closely and will keep fighting for a better Vancouver. #vanpoli – at Vancouver, British Columbia

Thank you, Mike @Howellings for covering what was an emotional day at City Hall yesterday. I'm grateful for your continued, thoughtful reporting in a media landscape where civic issues often don't receive the attention they deserve.

Pleased to hear this. I am hopeful our new city government will this to heart and reflect on what they can do to ensure our city is one where everyone feels safe, and most importantly, ensure in partnership with the Province that people who are facing serious addiction and mental health issues urgently receive the compassionate care and treatment they need. #vanpoli
BREAKING... City of Vancouver voters overwhelmingly voted "YES" in both public safety plebiscite questions. 68.6% for enhancing enforcement against public use of hard drugs. 68% on creating a secure medical treatment facility. #bcpoli #vanpoli #vanre dailyhive.com/vancouver/vanc…

A reminder to cast your ballot in the other important election happening this month. No lines at all, and a much shorter ballot than the municipal one. Have your say! 🗳️ ✅ #bcpoli

Much appreciation to outgoing Mayor @KenSimCity, and outgoing councillors @sarahkirby_yung, @LennyNanZhou and @PeterMeiszner for your hard work on behalf of the #VancouverCulturalPrecinct and the arts generally during your time on council. As the reps to the Art Gallery and Van Civic Theatres, you helped our project move from a dream to a plan for a historic transformation of Vancouver.

FYI: City of Vancouver's public safety plebiscite results won't be known for days after election night. Expect the plebiscite results on public hard drug use enforcement and creating a secure medical treatment facility on Wednesday. #bcpoli #vanpoli dailyhive.com/vancouver/vanc…

Putting out fires is their job—not wearing cancer-causing chemicals. 🔥 Vancouver invested $2.8 million in PFAS-free firefighter gear, a North American first. That’s protecting those who protect us. Credit to @KenSimCity and former Fire Chief Karen Fry! 👏

Go vote Ken Sim and ABC. • A record $400M committed to community centre renewal. You can go check the facts. • Tripling road and sidewalk renewal funding to $104M • Only party that actually gives a shit about South Van. The others only come for the free samosas once a year. • Cutting red tape so businesses can grow • Tackling street disorder that too many on the left seem willing to tolerate. Keep #Vancouver moving. There’s more to this City than the left wing echo chamber.

It’s Election Day, Vancouver! 🗳️ First of all, I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me, whether that was through your words of encouragement, taking a sign, making a donation, or volunteering - it means the world to me.  I’ve also enjoyed meeting so many Vancouverites over the past few months while campaigning, and I’ve appreciated all of the conversations, feedback, ideas and even criticism — I take my role as a councillor seriously and I am here to help you. Thank you for an amazing four years on council; I am deeply appreciative of the trust that was placed in me by residents in 2022 and if re-elected tonight, I promise I will keep listening, keep showing up and keep fighting for you at City Hall. If you haven’t had a chance to vote yet, today is your final chance. Polling stations are open across the city from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.  This is a very close race and every vote counts. We’ve significantly increased the number of voting locations and resources for the municipal election to make voting easier and faster, so please vote today. It goes without saying, but I truly believe we have the best slate of candidates running to represent our city at City Hall, at the Park Board and at School Board.  They are experienced; they are pragmatic, and have a wide range of skill sets, work and life experiences.  Most of all, they are good people who care deeply about Vancouver.  Trust me, I've spent many hours doorknocking with them! I hope they will have your support. #vanpoli – at Vancouver, British Columbia

2/3 One of the great things about ABC Vancouver is that it has always been a team for all of Vancouver. From the Eastside to the Westside, north to south, downtown and everywhere in between. From the left to the right of the political spectrum. And as always, the multicultural mosaic that makes our city Vancouver.  You can see it in the people endorsing Mayor Ken Sim and the ABC team: doctors, politicians of all stripes, community leaders, business leaders, and yes, even a rescue dog. Diversity isn’t just something we talk about. It’s who we are, and it’s how we build a city that works for everyone. Swipe through to meet some of the people standing with us. Election Day is this Saturday, October 17. Vote YES on both Public Safety Plebiscite questions, vote for Mayor Ken Sim and your ABC Vancouver team, and bring your friends and family. #ABCVancouver #PublicSafety #Affordability

#VPDNews: The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is asking for the public’s help to identify suspects in three unprovoked stranger assaults that occurred across the city on Thursday. INCIDENT 1 At approximately 6:10 a.m. at Victory Square, 200 West Hastings Street, a 73-year-old woman was waiting in line for a recycling cup program when a suspect approached and attempted to steal bags containing her recyclable cups. When the victim tried to stop the theft, the suspect punched her in the eye, pushed her to the ground, and stole one of the bags before fleeing eastbound on West Hastings Street near Cambie Street. The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition. The suspect is described as a white woman in her 30s, with shoulder-length dirty-blonde hair with blonde highlights. She was wearing a black jacket, with white sweater underneath, black pants, and white shoes. “We are releasing CCTV images of the suspect and a potential witness in the hopes that someone may recognize them and come forward with more information,” says Superintendent Phil Heard. INCIDENT 2 Shortly before 12:30 p.m. near Commercial Drive and Adanac Street, a 44-year-old man was talking on the phone when he was approached by a man who began making racist remarks. After the victim told the suspect to leave him alone, the man elbowed him in the chin before punching and kicking him. The assault ended when witnesses intervened. The suspect was last seen walking southbound on Commercial Drive. He is described as a dark-skinned man between 40-50 years-old, approximately five foot seven inches tall, with a slim build. He was wearing a grey dress shirt, tan pants, white shoes, and a green cross-body bag. INCIDENT 3 At approximately 6:20 p.m. near Burrard and West Georgia, a 33-year-old resident was walking westbound when a man walking in the opposite direction suddenly struck him on his back. They briefly exchanged words before the suspect fled eastbound on West Georgia Street. He is described as a Black man, approximately five feet nine inches tall, with short black hair and a black beard. He was wearing a green winter jacket and carrying a black backpack. "We are asking anyone who witnessed any of these assaults, has CCTV footage, or can help identify any of the suspects to contact Vancouver Police at 604-717-3321," says Heard.

⬇️15M in public funds has been invested to build the Coal Harbour childcare centre. But it remains closed because a lack of provincial funding leaves a gap for the operator. Families have waited long enough; we will push to get these 69 spaces open. #vanpoli #bcpoli
This new Vancouver daycare is sitting empty, despite massive a wait-list. Advocates say this may become more common vancouversun.com/opinion/col…

There are many reasons this election matters, but one of the most important issues facing Vancouver is public safety and street disorder. Mayor Ken Sim and your ABC Vancouver team brought forward the Public Safety Plebiscite, proposing: 1. Strengthening City bylaws against open-air hard drug use 2. Calling on the Province to provide more voluntary and at least 100 involuntary care beds for people facing severe mental health and addiction challenges The National Post has now endorsed voting YES on both questions. The editorial comes amid continued public discussion about street disorder, addiction, treatment and recovery. Residents from across Vancouver have also shared their experiences, including concerns about drug use near children, conditions in their neighbourhoods, access to medical treatment and pressure on emergency rooms. Some of their comments are featured in this carousel. Only Mayor Ken Sim and your ABC Vancouver team have committed to pursuing the changes proposed in the plebiscite. On October 17, Vancouverites will elect their next mayor and council and have their say on both public safety questions. Let’s make Vancouver known for world-class treatment and recovery.
