Why are our voices ignored when it comes to policies about our lives? My #NDIS podcast series is about putting #disabled people at the centre of #disability policy. Please show your support by watching & sharing youtu.be/2IVc34-2hl4 @bluntshovels
An important opportunity to help shape the NDIS. #ndisreview #haveyoursay
What works with the NDIS? What do you think needs improvement? Your voice matters, and we want to hear it. Have your say and help us shape the future of the NDIS. #NDISReview #NDIS

I valued the opportunity to appear before the @DRC_AU today and share some of the work of @Mable_Australia . I also wanted to share that our views and solutions are informed by our community. We support choice and control, and a diverse and vibrant disability support marketplace.

The ability to use unregistered NDIS providers is about exercising choice & control for participants. Research from @UNSW explored this with respondents stating they felt more empowered within the support interaction when using an unregistered provider theconversation.com/unregist…
A valuable and timely report. It echos what we hear all the time among the Mable community.
In our latest bit of work me, @DrSophieYates and @raelene_west spoke to NDIS participants about why they use unregistered providers. Full report is available here and some key messages in this thread unsw.adfa.edu.au/sites/defau…

Insights into leading change in #NDIS. @drgeorgethecrip -- eyebrow raised -- asks ... you said no? And @kurtfearnley explains why any thoughtful, deeply-committed person would (at the very least) reflect on the size of the task. We are fortunate to have these two real champions

Happy birthday Everald. You’re wisdom and life experience is more valuable than ever
Today I enter 10th decade of my life & will use it to help rebuild an #Australia that once was proud. Our 6 States grow further apart daily despite having a valued #heritage of 65000 years & citizens who have come here from 100 nations but I happily walk into a beautiful sunset.
So true
The little fella just admiring a legend - humble, honest, raw, inspiring and freakish. If only we had the chance to watch @DylanAlcott work his magic more often! #howgood #ParalympicsAUS
Congrats @drgeorgethecrip you’re wise counsel and insights are appreciated by many

Congratulations @everaldatlarge well deserved recognition
Bravo!
@EVERALDATLARGE, our Advisory Panel Chair, is recognised in the 2021 Queen's Birthday Honours with an AO, on top of his AM, for “distinguished service to the aged welfare sector through advocacy & advisory roles, to the Uniting Church in Australia, & to the community.”👏

Older people I speak with do not want to return to the traditional models of home care such as those delivered by CHSP.
Instead, they want the govt to stop unscrupulous providers rorting their HCPs.
This is an important read. @drgeorgethecrip is one of the most articulate, insightful and thoughtful people I know. It’s time to talk to George and others with lived experience of disability and find a solution together.
I was asked to think about what my life would be like without support. Over and over again... I need support to eat, breathe, and to wipe my bum. I felt unable to answer your questions. But I had to. #ndis everyaustraliancounts.com.au…
The WHO Ageism report reveals one in two people hold ageist attitudes.
Ageism in our aged care system leads to poorer physical and mental health and reduced quality of life. Mable enables older Australians to take control of their care & support

A great example of ageism in aged care is believing older people don’t have the capacity to self manage their home care package. Many have both the capacity and the desire to self manage and make decisions about what’s important to them. Let’s ensure this is a clear option
This report shows just how pervasive ageism is in our society. We see it in our workplaces, in our health care system and of course we’ve seen it rife throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. youtu.be/itsS4kcUg8I
Well said @cotaaustralia . @mable_australia is a model built on self determination and choice and control. It’s what my parents wanted for their home care and why we started reimagining care-at-home by putting older people and the people who support them at the centre
Our new aged care system must tip the scales towards the individual and give older people genuine self-determination. That means control over the culture, choice of care and service delivery, and full transparency from providers.

So #ScoMo says the fundamental shift for #agedcare will be from a system focused on funding for providers to a needs-based system that puts people at the centre. That's promising news... #agedcarerc
