On 22nd September 1934 at Gresford Colliery, Wales, an explosion killed 266 men & boys underground. 6 survived and only 11 bodies were ever recovered.
The wages of all were docked by half a days pay by the owners because the men had 'failed to complete their shift.'
"But now the belts are empty,
came a sadness with the dawn.
And the body-press is idle,
and the valley's blinds are drawn.
Disaster struck this morning
when a fitter's mate named Ron
Cracked the mould of solid gold,
that once made Barry John."
RIP. Genius. Lovely man.

Read a very sad account of a GP’s harrowing day from yesterday. Took hope further away from me. But sat in my study, writing a report which should considerably help a local business, Chopin in the background, blue sky and a gorgeous Red Kite gliding towards my window. Ah well.

I have dedicated my whole life to the Rule of Law & never thought that my Government would treat it with such contempt
A society is judged on how it treats its most vulnerable & today with families at #Grenfell memorial, with refugees being deported & children starving I despair

Deportation of asylum seekers should shame us as a nation.
Our Christian heritage should inspire us to treat vulnerable people seeking asylum with compassion, fairness and justice.
