It’s all treats for Tacoma commuters! All lanes are now open across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge to Gig Harbor. A host of prep work and fair weather helped open lanes more than a week ahead of schedule. Many thanks to everyone who changed plans to keep backups low.

UPDATE2: Cleanup is underway after a semi-trailer fire on NB I-5 near Port of Tacoma Rd. Two lanes remain blocked. Crews are working to remove the trailer debris from the roadway.

UPDATE: Three lanes are now open on NB I-5 near the Puyallup River Bridge. Traffic is backed up on NB I-5 to South 56th Street and on EB SR 16 to South 19th Street.

EXPECT DELAYS! Our favorite 76-year-old bridge needs a joint replacement. The SR 16 Tacoma Narrows Bridge to Gig Harbor will undergo around-the-clock lane reductions Oct. 24 to Nov. 8 so we can perform the surgery. Read our latest blog for details: wsdotblog.blogspot.com/2026/…

Day 5 of work and day 3 of PM commutes during lane closures for joint repairs on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge to Gig Harbor. The new piece is in, but we still have work to do- like testing how it moves with changing temps and heavy loads.

Expect slow PM commutes on WB SR 16 to Gig Harbor while bridge repairs are underway at the Tacoma Narrows. The two right lanes across the bridge and the ramp from Jackson Ave. are closed around-the-clock until work is done. Current backups today start near Cheney Stadium.

At our board meeting earlier this week, we recognized 2 Pierce Transit bus operators for their outsranding achievements. We congratulated Luther as the September driver of the Month. Luther has been with Pierce Transit since 2018, and we thanked him for his amazing service.
