As every Westerner who has spent time in Russia knows, Russians actually have an extraordinary affection for America (the number of Russian celebrities and former officials with second homes in Florida and California ought to offer a clue 😉). What many Russians object to is Washington's foreign policy, particularly the attitude of American elites who rejected Moscow's friendly overtures in the 1990s and 2000s, preferring instead to keep Russia as an adversary/rival.
Once again, I cannot get over how pathetic it is seeing the US, the world's only true superpower, being completely pushed around by a country with only a fraction of its economic and military power, especially one like Russia which openly despises America.

Just to be clear: because every facet of the GOP is completely corrupted by Special Interest money--particularly that of Big (Little) Israel and Big Pharma--the GOP must NEVER be allowed to hold power again. Ever. Not until they CLEAN HOUSE at least.

Let me spell this out for you, since apparently even the most basic points are beyond your comprehension. First, you have absolutely no personal skin in this game. No Ukrainian friends or family, no loved ones suffering under the bombs, no personal connection to the people whose lives are being destroyed. You have never even been to Ukraine. Second, you have absolutely no clue what this war has done to the country, its people, and countless families. You have not witnessed the destruction, the suffering, or the devastation firsthand. Yet you sit comfortably behind your keyboard pretending to know better than those who live with the consequences every single day. Third, you insult people who want this senseless killing to stop, including people who actually have something at stake. The sheer arrogance of lecturing those who carry the emotional burden of this war, while you bear none of its consequences, is staggering. Fourth, more than a year ago, you made a grand public announcement about wanting to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Big words. Big performance. And yet, here we are, more than a year later, and you still have not even set foot in Ukraine. And finally, let me repeat point number one, because clearly it has not sunk in: Having an opinion is easy when you have absolutely nothing to lose. But if you have no personal connection to this war, no firsthand experience of its consequences, and no intention of putting anything on the line, then perhaps you should stop lecturing those who do. Your keyboard courage is impressive. Your credibility, however, is another matter entirely. People like you should just shut up when it comes to Ukraine.
Being called a warmonger for standing up for Ukraine’s right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter wasn’t on my bingo card four years ago.

I respect Tucker, Massie, MTG more than these guys. They had the guts to stand up and say something much earlier and they took huge political hits for it. These guys are just like rats jumping ship after its already sinking.

The Democrats are the party that loves war. They took us into  WWI, WWII and nuked Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.  They are very pro-Ukraine and hate Putin all because of Hillary. So, unfortunately, we are on the side of Hitler in this war. Zelensky started bombing the refineries in Russia and basically gave the finger to Trump. The Democrats cheer that and are so braindead they have no idea that is going to create food shortages, supply chain disruption, and send prices higher.

The 14 year old boy who took part in protests against a reported Azov detention facility near Kyiv, and his parents, have been added to the been added to the controversial Ukrainian "Myrotvorets" list, where their personal information, including address, phone numbers, and passport information, were doxxed. This is the same boy who was reportedly beaten with a shovel by soldiers after throwing rocks at Azov personnel. The boy was added to the list for allegedly taking "actions aimed at undermining Ukraine's defense capabilities and disrupting mobilization measures in the interests of the Russian-fascist invaders", calling for attacks on Ukrainian military personnel, attacking Ukrainian servicemen, and obstructing the Ukrainian military's actions "to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country". They allege that he injured Azov personnel after throwing rocks at them, and caused damage exceeding 10s of millions of Hryvnias. The child's parents were added to the list for "Non-fulfilment of parental responsibilities for the maintenance and upbringing of minor children, which led to serious consequences." Despite them not taking part in any of the protest actions, their personal information, including including address, phone numbers, and passport information, were doxxed to the public. The Myrotvorets list is a database of individuals they consider enemies of Ukraine, who they claim are working against Ukraine's national interests. It has been repeatedly criticised by human rights organisations as violating press freedoms and endangering journalists. Some critics have characterised Myrotvorets as a "kill list", and alleged it is funded by the Ukrainian SBU. I have blurred out their personal information for obvious reasons.

Delighted to debut in @Weltwoche with this piece about Donald Tusk’s EU-backed constitutional coup. In it, I explain that even though, at face value, this might seem like little more than a showdown between the government and opposition over control of the country’s highest court, it is actually part of a much larger power struggle within the EU establishment. At its core, this is a battle over sovereignty in its most fundamental form: which legal order should prevail, the Polish constitution or EU law, when the two collide? In the past, the Tribunal has argued that the final word lies with the Polish constitution, not EU law — something Brussels has never forgiven it for. The supremacy of EU law over national law does not exist in any treaties; rather, it was created by the EU judiciary through a ruling made by the European Court of Justice (ECJ) known as Costa v ENEL in 1964. Since then, it has become the engine of EU “integration by law”: by constantly creating “laws” through its rulings, almost always in favor of “more Europe”, the ECJ has effectively become the bloc’s most important legislative and, indeed, constitution-writing body, thus hollowing out from above of national constitutional and legal systems. Alec Stone Sweet, an international-law expert, has termed this a “juridical coup d’état”. A national constitutional court that rejects this principle represents an existential threat to Brussels. This is the real reason the EU was so adamantly opposed to Poland under the previous national-conservative government (and to Orbán’s Hungary for the same reason). This is ultimately what Brussels and Tusk refer to when they accuse the previous government, and the Tribunal itself, of having violated the rule of law. What they mean is that they dared to challenge the rule of Brussels’s law. This is the law Tusk wants to restore.

In January, as Trump threatened to attack Iran to compel it to capitulate, I told a senior Trump official that Iran won't surrender and that their calculation is that they don't need to win the war against the US; they just need to destroy Trump's presidency. They just did.

Iran won a consolation prize tonight. Iran’s theory of victory was that squeezing the US with the Hormuz weapon would threaten to wreck the GOP in the midterms, and this threat would coerce the Administration into making concessions; above all, on the Hormuz question. That theory failed. The costs imposed were real. They caused a global cost of living crisis. They turned US voters decisively against the president and cost his party the midterms. But they failed to persuade the US to capitulate. The key mistake was the failure to adjust Iranian strategy after Iran lost the battle of Hormuz and oil flows returned to prewar levels. This persuaded the Administration that the worst could be contained and defeat avoided; that it could even hope to prevail in a protracted war of the sieges. Iran did secure a key secondary objective tonight: it has dealt such a gut punch that any future president will think twice before attacking Iran again. However, this was a one-time cost. The pain has been inflicted and absorbed. It still faces a stubborn Administration that it not now going to capitulate. The cornered rat might lash out or not. But it is hard to see him capitulate any time soon. Tehran is celebrating a major political victory and its newfound international status. But the strategic task has not been accomplished. It is playing for an audience of one. Iran has to find a way to persuade the Administration that it can make the costs prohibitive. How can it do that? I have argued at length that Tehran has indeed discovered the correct channel for pain delivery. But it has refused to follow through on it. My fundamental assessment is that they will be eventually forced to actually implement the new response function, whether bc a US escalation discredits the diplomatists and removes their veto, or bc the Iranians start suffocating from the anaconda’s grip around their neck. Things must get a lot worse for them to get better. A temporary ceasefire may be needed for R&R but ultimately it is just kicking the can down the road.

There is no democracy without press freedom. On International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, and beyond, we stand by all those who speak truth to power.

What is happening there is absolute hell. This is pure evil. There are actually many such prisons across Ukraine. According to my information, at least one person was killed there simply to set an example for everyone else, right in front of them all. This is a method borrowed from the 1990s, when racketeers would take a homeless man, wash him, dress him up, and then stage a murder, chopping his head off with a scythe, in order to make uncooperative businessmen start paying. But here, it’s not a homeless man. It’s just an ordinary person who was forcibly taken off the street and who later ran away from his military unit. They caught him and didn’t inform anyone about it. All the others are forced to contact their relatives by phone and ask them, beg them, to sell their apartments, to sell everything, in order to buy their freedom. The sums involved are truly enormous. What should their relatives do? You’ll say: go to the police. I’ll laugh in your face. To the Ukrainian police, right? I see. And who is holding them there in the basement? Isn’t it the police? The National Guard and the police. Azov, Khartiia, the police, the TCC. What do you think? Are these ordinary police officers? Can you imagine the amount of money involved? These people are literally being held hostage, just as terrorists held hostages in the North Caucasus. Their fingers are cut off, their spines are broken, their stomachs are slit open. They can do absolutely anything they want to them. These mentally sick bastards think of themselves as Gestapo officers. They are actually very proud of what they can do to such people in basements. What is happening there is absolute hell. This is pure evil. Even the lying European press will find it extremely difficult not to report on this tomorrow.
