It is the conductive electrode you find on electrostatic dissipative shoes. ESD footwear is built to drain static off the body so you do not spark and you do not fry gear. Factories. Server rooms. Clean rooms. Explosive-handling floors. Radio and wireless kits. That is not what you throw on for a campus tent event in Utah. So why is Charlie’s entire security crew wearing them on September 10th — not one guy, the whole detail. If they were just working a typical rope line, rubber sneakers do the job. You spec ESD when something on the body or on the stage cannot take a zap — mics, transmitters, packs, or anything that should not throw a spark.
