My knowledge of Sub is close to -1, but I always had the impression it allowed, like youtube does, that bad faith amateurs could pose as experts. Twitter allows for a much quicker correction, even Musk's twitter. And...I knew even less about LitSub!
I'm over on Substack asking "what is Literary Substack?" and whose rules should apply there: those of the amateur commentators who first populated the platform, or those of the academics who have arrived there more recently? It's getting a bit fraught over there.

Dear @katrosenfield and @ghostofchristo1, I thought I should share with you this fine book suggestion aimed at adult women, in case you need an idea for a 🍁 present!

When you're at stage where you know, factually, you wrote the important points, and yet you you're missing the essential.

Adam Randall keeps being called to unfuck what @AppleTV fucked. Slow Horses was never about a bunch of retarded clowns, but about moral decay mixed with not so subtle religious undertones. Randall seems to be the only one getting that.

It's amazing to see hysterics from all quadrants faiting over Sweeney's erotic ad.

It wouldn't work that well in the series (though it's hinted at), but the book is more "winkish", and, subtly tells us the obvious: Robert is BEE's creation. Shards jokes with many of the criticism aimed at BEE.
The first statement of the Venice Film Festival closing ceremony comes from Nonny de la Peña, co-director of immersive project Out Of The Ashes, who lost most of her life’s work in an LA fire in 2024. “Please everybody, plant more trees,” says de la Peña. “We need to re-green the planet.” #Venezia83 t.ly/iWS0U

"Couture" and "Hope" are two of the films that surprised me more recently. I'm not saying I liked "Couture", I've yet to decide on that, but they are intelligent films. They have an actual idea behind them. Hope was particularly provocative.

I just used "Gere" to refer to the young Homer and not to Richard. And now I'm feeling 345 years old.

I just read someone posting a book was bad because the female character liked sex that didn't follow up the feminist manual.
It's only ok to read books with dark amoral characters in the context of a university literature class so that your instructor can explain why they are bad

Not my favourite by any measure, but it will either get BP or BD:

I am eternally frustrated by the idea that not seeing yourself reflected in a film means it holds nothing of value for you. It's a deeply incurious, self-absorbed way to engage with art.

On a more serious note than my previous answer, I was reading an interview by an actor regarding his work. And I felt slightly insane because what he said has nothing to do with the reality of that work. He just said 748382 woke things and the journalist added 7482829 woke things
So what happens when a nation’s elite sense-making classes decide to totally take leave of their senses? Asking for a nation’s friend.

All of them completely disconnected from reality. At some point, he describes his character like Eco describes how fascists see their enemies: simultaneously pathetic and ultra-powerful. Insane.

I also suggest imprisoning all male brit actors, release them only when they're cast, and never allow them to talk about their roles unless they've something intelligent to say.
One of my first policies when I'm in charge of CuLtUrE will be to merge ACE with ICE and establish a Saint-Simonian 100%-artist penal colony. An idea so good I cannot believe it hasn't been tried. (It has: petitpoi.net/the-cart-pullin…)
