Yesterday, we walked out in the cold and the snow to demand a safer West Street. Thank you to everyone who joined us, including councilors Marchetti and Lampiasi from the Pittsfield City Council, and Commissioner Morales from the city Department of Public Services and Utilities.

SIGN THE PETITION: The goal of our walk is to leave with a call to action to make West Street safer for all. Whether or not you can join us on Saturday, please add your voice to our petition that we will submit to the city council. chng.it/hsjpbJ9Y

Every friend group needs someone who constantly talks about how we need to build places for people instead of just cars.

Crossing the street should not be deadly. If you’re in Pittsfield next Saturday, come add your voice to say so.

Walk with us as we rally to #FixWestStreet. For too long, this corridor has prioritized moving drivers as quickly as possible over the people who call this neighborhood home. It is time for this relic of urban renewal to be modernized for the 21st century. fb.me/e/2m0jWjaHD?mibextid=R…

Pittsfield deserves safe, modern infrastructure. I think we can all agree that the “West Street/West Street” intersection is in need of attention. Currently it is conducive to high speeds, long crossing times, and odd traffic patterns due to heavy left turns. Let’s reimagine it…

Continuing the topic of sitting - DID YOU KNOW? The optimal height of a “sittable” surface for an adult is 18 inches. Measure any chair you come across and the sitting surface will be close to 18” above the floor. Image via @PPS_Placemaking

Of course this doesn’t apply to just chairs. Any flat surface 18” above the ground can be an attractive place to sit - walls, fountains, stoops, ledges, or planters. Build it and they will sit! (If you get the surrounding environment right)

GM DTP on this #TBT! Way back in 2018 we did an experiment at Third Thursday to see what would happen if we put some fake grass, tables, and chairs in the street. People like to sit! – at Pittsfield, MA
