Apple's Safari web browser is getting a couple of major improvements as part of the latest iOS 27.3 (and macOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3) updates.
First and foremost, the browser now supports vertical tabs. As @TechWhirlUlt from our team explains:
"Vertical Tabs is a highly overdue addition among the list of new features. Instead of squeezing multiple open websites into a cramped horizontal strip, Safari can now display tabs along the left side of the window. The layout shows website icons by default to conserve some space, but users can resize the sidebar to reveal full page titles. Apple’s Safari is probably the last mainstream browser to adopt vertical tabs"
Secondly, with Adaptive Dark Mode, the dark mode feature is getting smarter.
"Adaptive Dark Mode can automatically convert light mode websites into the dark mode equivalent. Users no longer have to stare at glaring white backgrounds while the rest of the browser’s UI is in dark mode."
Apart from these two changes, Apple is also claiming to have improved Siri AI's browser capabilities, allowing users to ask Siri to move, sort, organize, and close tabs.

“Firefox is just a browser it’s not a personal assistant or some kind of advisor, I type a URL you do your job and go there and stay out of the way” - a frustrated user recently said on Reddit.
What happened?
Well, the frustration erupted after Firefox refused to open a normal web link when typed into the address bar. The browser took them to a search results page for the URL instead.
@DCubbins from our team explains:
"It turns out this happens because of how the search switcher works on the left side of the address bar. If you accidentally click that icon and pick a different search engine, or hit the Control and K shortcut on your keyboard, Firefox locks itself into search mode"
We tested it on our end, and can confirm this behavior.
A Mozilla engineer has since responded to the frustrated user, acknowledging that this behavior is "confusing."

Mozilla has published its Q3 2026 security and privacy newsletter. Here's a quick summary:
- Mozilla says they are continuing to detect and fix bugs using AI tools.
- Firefox iOS users finally got a native ad blocker in September
- Firefox is locking down how extensions behave. Add-ons are now blocked from reading local files on your computer unless you explicitly give them permission.
- Firefox treats email links like pop-ups so sketchy sites cannot spam your mail app.
- Starting Firefox 157, the browser also warns you in the address bar if someone else on your system is logging or intercepting your encrypted web traffic.

Google is continuing with its streak of fixing hundreds of bugs with each Chrome release. The latest update, Chrome v157, also fixes as many as 213 bugs.
The update arrives as version 157.0.8103.38 on Linux or 157.0.8103.38/.39 on Windows and macOS over the coming days. Android users are also getting the exact same 157.0.8103.38 build via the Play Store, which carries over all the same under-the-hood security protections.
7 bugs are marked as critical, which means leaving them unpatched may result in your Chrome crashing or getting hacked.

A new report by the New York Times is creating quite a buzz. It reveals Google will let K-12 schools restrict AI tools next year, while districts that block AI completely will lose student access to Google Search.
Needless to say, Google is receiving a lot of bad press because of this decision.
Capitalizing on this opportunity, it seems, privacy-focused engine Kagi has made a calculated move by dropping its mandatory sign-up wall, letting anyone test its ad-free web search right out of the box without creating an account.
In a post on X, the company announced that anyone can now visit its homepage and “search your day away with no ads, no spam, no nonsense” without making an account.
Are their any catches? And why Kagi needs sign-ups or monthly subscription for using their search engine in the first place?

Microsoft is highlighting how its Scareware blocker on Edge has been fighting fake or scam notifications.
Why is this important? As @TechWhirlUlt from our team explains:
"For instance, you could get a fake virus prompt or a fake security alert. Average netizens who aren’t in-the-know are likely to end up trusting it, which could either lead to the installation of viruses or technical support scams that steal credit card information, ultimately leading to monetary loss."
Microsoft says:
"As of last month’s rollout of Edge 156, when Microsoft Defender SmartScreen or Scareware blocker detect a scam that was pushed through a notification, Edge will automatically disable notifications from the site that sent it. The next time Edge starts, an information bar explains what happened."
The Edge browser now also includes a new 'Block and report' option which, as the name suggests, not only allows you to block fake notifications but also report them directly to Microsoft. You can also include important information such as screenshots and the URL of the fake page.

Latest numbers show the adoption and usage of the Brave browser as well as the Brave search engine is picking up.
Brave browser:
- Monthly Active Users (MAU) exceeded 130 million for the first time in October (up from 126 million reported in August)
- Daily Active Users (DAU) hit a record 55.42 million
- Daily browsing time stands at round 7.26 billion minutes
Brave search:
- 2.71 billion queries across October
- A single-day record of 91.77 million searches on October 25
@DCubbins from our team notes:
"Even more interesting is that 10.1% of all those monthly searches came from people who are not even using the Brave browser. That share has been creeping up from around 8% over the summer, meaning plenty of folks on Chrome or Safari are actively going out of their way to use Brave Search on its own."

Although delayed, horizontal tab scrolling has finally arrived on Google Chrome. You can test the feature out in the latest Chrome Canary build.
One of our team members explains why this is a big deal:
"If you’re someone who keeps dozens of tabs open at once, you probably know how frustrating Chrome has felt for much of the year. Tabs keep shrinking into tiny slivers until you can barely see the site icons. Things got especially frustrating back in January, when Chrome and Brave removed the old tab-scrolling flag, prompting plenty of people to consider switching to Firefox or Vivaldi."
The feature can be enabled by flipping on a flag. We tried it at our end, and it works as expected.
