It's happening. Americans have had enough. Americans in New York burn the Israeli flag while cheering, "Fuck Israel!" An uprising has begun.

Warm congratulations to Navi Pillay on being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. From her work in South Africa defending Nelson Mandela & others, to her role as an international judge on cases relating to international crimes, including the genocide in Rwanda, to her tenure as High Commissioner for Human Rights, to chairing the @UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, she has shown that the force of law must prevail over the law of force and that defending human rights is the surest safeguard against injustice. Today’s prize is a tribute to all those working to uphold & defend international law, the rule of law & human rights, and secure peace, justice & human dignity.

Sila was born during the war. She has never known a normal life. No home. No quiet nights. Just tents and the sound of planes. Yet she still smiles. Does she deserve a childhood?

A baby girl was rescued from the womb of her mother, Suad Qishta, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike. Hours later, the baby also died in Khan Younis, Gaza. Was a baby in her mother’s womb a human shield?

Despite everything we went through tonight, we are still alive.
When my daughter Kiraz just heard the sounds of explosions, she was terrified and asked me in a trembling voice: “Dad, what is that sound?” I answered her: “That is the sound of shelling and explosions.” She looked at me with eyes filled with fear, then asked me: “Then, are we going to die now?” I froze in front of her question. I could not bear her words, and I could not find an answer to give a three-year-old child. I could only hold her tightly in my arms, while my tears streamed down my face, unable to stop them. A child who is only 3 years old does not ask her father for a toy, or for a bedtime story, or when she will go to school. She asks him whether she is going to die now or not.😭💔

Today is not an ordinary day. Today marks the anniversary of the loss of my son, Rakan. My little boy, who came into this world after five years of waiting, lived for only nine months, and then was taken from us in a single moment under the bombardment. On October 9, 2023, at around 2 a.m., I returned from my work as a journalist through the fire and destruction, only to find that my family was buried beneath the rubble… and Rakan was among them. I cannot describe what it feels like for a father to search through the rubble for his child, or how a heart can accept that the little face that once filled our home with life will never come back. Three years have passed… and I still find myself looking for him in the details of my life. In my children’s laughter, in children’s toys, and every time I hold a child in my arms. I once thought time would make the pain easier. Instead, it has only taught me how to carry it. And today, as I hold Yaman in my arms, I feel that Rakan is still with me in another way. Yaman is not a replacement for him, and he never could be. Every child has a place in their father’s heart, and Rakan has a place that no one can ever take. Rakan… You were only nine months of my life, but you left behind a lifetime in my heart. You left this world so young, but your memory grows with me every day. May God have mercy on my son Rakan and make him among the birds of Paradise. May He reunite me with him one day, in a place with no bombardment, no fear, and no separation. I miss you, Rakan… more than words could ever express.

For those who don’t know what is happening in Gaza right now: A night of hell. The sky is filled with warplanes. Missiles are raining down. Children are among the dead, the wounded are under bombardment, and families are being forced to evacuate their homes. Families step into the streets in the darkness of night, not knowing where to go or where they will spend the remaining hours. Scenes of displacement and fear return once again, as though three years of war were not enough. After all this destruction, killing, and displacement, what more does Israel want from Gaza beyond everything it has already taken?

We are still alive in Gaza… 🥹🇵🇸 Despite everything, we are still trying to hold on. If you see this photo, please don’t scroll past in silence. Write anything — even a single dot means so much to us and reminds us that we are not alone. 🥹💔🙏

I fear that my life is in grave danger in Gaza in the days ahead. I cannot reveal the details publicly, but I am genuinely afraid of what may happen to me. I am asking the international community, journalists, human rights organizations, and anyone with the power to help: Please help me evacuate Gaza before it is too late. I do not want to become another name on a list of the dead. I want the chance to survive, to live in safety, and to continue my life beyond this war. Please do not wait until something happens to me to take my situation seriously.

This afternoon in Marble Hill, a New Yorker was shot by an ICE agent in a residential neighborhood. Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds. We believe the child was physically unharmed. This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities. Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery. Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children. Abolish ICE.
