Coming after YouTube. Interesting
instagram wants to own the entire audience journey. reels become a discovery surface to push people further into serialized content and, eventually, long-form. here’s what that funnel might look like for a brand.

You’re the pilot
I think I have crossed the rubicon. I can no longer see a world where I or anyone in my position can do their job without the help of AI. And I think I've arrived here a bit later than others. There's a real before/after here. Just like how people say work changed before/after fax machines, before/after computers, before/after the internet. The before/after for AI is just as if more significant than the before/after the internet (I started my career a few years into that shift, and I witnessed people not keep up). I think this will upset a lot of people but I really believe this now. It doesn't mean that craft or being able to do anything without AI doesn't count - those things count more than ever. I'm trying to find an analog and this might be niche, but I think it's like comparing fly-by-wire avionics on jet fighters vs the old hydraulic way of flying. Fly-by-wire allows you to push the envelope to the edge of human tolerances while taking advantage of naturally unstable flight surfaces. It turns chaos into dynamic, nimble control that allows you to pull more Gs and outmaneuver competition. That's sort of what I'm trying to say about AI. The pilots still matter at the end of the day. Only really great pilots are good enough to be fighter pilots, and only those who study and practice and understand the limits of their own bodies and of the machines they control are able to fully maximize their ability. So yeah. You're the pilot.

No, honey, not "playing." I'm preparing for what humans can uniquely do in the AI era.
Walter Isaacson asks Peter Thiel what humans can uniquely do in the AI era. Thiel: "We're very relational… these relational dimensions will become more important." When knowledge is worth $0, the only career skills that matter: - networking / social calibration - persuasion (sales) - curiosity (harnessing AI) - taste (curation) - storytelling - grit - golfing with clients (or equivalent) We'll get so sick of a fake world that we'll go back to doing business like it's the 1800s. A handshake at the local saloon.

Classic scope creep. Netflix used to be about good shows and movies. Now it’s podcasts, gaming, ads, sports. Get back to basics!

Humans need friction. So does the economy. Wrote about Musing Ourselves to Death & what a future where the internet transforms into a place for AI assistants to perfect commerce. Spoiler: We talked to some smart ppl & it would be chaotic! w/ @matteo_wong theatlantic.com/technology/2…

Emptied the notebook on a few things I’ve been thinking about lately: NYC, the @ringer > @Substack migration, Meta Muse, and my fall reading list. Enjoy! prettysolidcorp.substack.com…
