Grateful to have served as Surgeon and Team Lead at the ASOU Buganda Sub-region Surgical Camp, held from 12th to 19th September 2026.
Over one week, our team delivered free surgical services to communities for whom access to timely surgical care remains a real challenge. Camps like this are a reminder that surgical care is an essential part of universal health coverage, not a luxury.
My sincere thanks to the Association of Surgeons of Uganda, the Ministry of Health, and the Kabaka Foundation for organising and supporting the camp, and to every surgeon, anaesthetist, nurse, and volunteer who gave their time and skill. Above all, thank you to the patients and families who trusted us with their care.
Proud of what we achieved together, and committed to doing more.

Congratulations, Mr President Dr Kakungulu. Your dedication to surgical oncology and commitment to advancing surgical practice are truely inspiring. It is an Honour to have learned from you. Wishing all the best in your career.
True teaching is not an accumulation of knowledge; it is an awakening of consciousness which goes through successive stages." - Ancient Egyptian Proverb.
I’m glad to have participated in the surgical oncology fellowship at the Shefa Al Orman Cancer Hospitals in Luxor, Egypt.
The workshop was a specialised training program designed to enhance surgical knowledge, impart surgical skills and share professional expertise in surgical oncology.
It brought together surgeons from across Africa, including Egypt, Tunisia, Sudan, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, and Zimbabwe, to discuss surgical procedures and learn practical skills through live surgeries.
The training location couldn’t have been better. Shefa Al Orman Cancer Hospitals is a leading oncology centre in Egypt providing comprehensive cancer care.
Luxor is a historic city in Upper Egypt, formerly known as Thebes. The city has a diverse cultural heritage, including temples, tombs, monuments, churches, and mosques, and is a major tourist destination on the banks of the River Nile.
We learned a lot while immersed in the history and cultural heritage of one of Africa's ancient cities.
