To challenge judicial supremacy, could America use a shadow court to issue advisory opinions alongside the Supreme Court? In this week’s Amicus episode, Dahlia Lithwick (@Dahlialithwick) talks w/ Fordham Law Prof. Julie Suk (@JulieCSuk) about her new book. slate.com/news-and-politics/…

Since she took the gavel in January, @SpeakerMenin has been relentless in her fight against hate. At a time of record antisemitism in NYC, she has confronted the scourge of Jew-hatred with unprecedented action. Thank you for your leadership, Julie. 🙏
After my numerous and lengthy meetings and conversations with The Met, I am pleased that they have agreed to not honor John Galliano. From the beginning, I have told them that I strongly disagreed with this decision, and at this rising time of antisemitism, it had served as a gut punch to the Jewish community. This is the correct decision, as the harm and pain this was causing was simply unacceptable. Museums such as The Met must be held to a high standard of inclusiveness and tolerance, and I am pleased that they have listened to the concerns I have raised and reacted with the right decision. As the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, and as the first Jewish speaker of the New York City Council, this decision was personal to me, and the Jewish community and I felt a strong obligation to speak out.

A violent agitator disrupted Shabbat services at Central Synagogue, assaulting a congregant and a security guard. Just as troubling as the violence itself is the political climate that emboldens it. American politics has become so obsessively antagonistic toward “Zionists” that even a synagogue is seen as fair game for disruption and desecration. No Jewish space is considered sacred enough to be left untouched. Antisemitism has risen to historic highs in America’s most Jewish city, with more hate crimes against Jews than against all other communities combined. Instead of cooling tensions, both the far left and the far right keep pouring gasoline on the fires of hate, fear, and blame.

They keep New Yorkers safe. And I will always work to keep their pensions safe. Proud to be backed by the New York State Troopers PBA in my reelection. I’m honored to have such a broad coalition of New Yorkers who care about the future of our State!

I just represented Mt Vernon where petitioners submitted proposed Charter amendments for open primaries and other changes Clerk rejected on various grounds Petitioners went to Ct and I moved to dismiss. Petitioners withdrew their case Off the ballot!
Replying to @brigidbergin
You did! It was a great piece, I was (without detracting from the article) just saying that notwithstanding the signature issue this is another example of how hard it is to thread the needle with this particular law/why no one has succeeded since 1993.

Congratulations to @JCRCNY and @UJAfedNY for scheduling the press conference this morning at The Jewish Center on West 86 Street to express joint support for the Jewish and Asian community, to solidify our anger that there is so much antisemitism and anti Asian hate in New York City, and to share our prayers for a full recovery for the two men who were stabbed. Congrats to @NYPDnews for the fast arrest of the perpetrator and thank you to the good Samaritan who ided the stabber’s location. July 24 2026 Photo credit: Samantha New
