This week as we see wildfires raging across Europe and geopolitics remaining on a knife edge, the fragility of the UK food system is increasingly obvious 🌡️
▸ Farmers and growers face higher costs and pressure from climate change
▸ International conflict has pushed fertiliser costs up
▸ Extreme weather events are making harvests increasingly vulnerable
▸ Biodiversity loss is threatening food supply
▸ Food prices are forecast to be 50% higher this November than at the start of the cost of living crisis
▸ Families are struggling to make ends meet, often cutting out fruit and veg
▸ Diet-related disease is at record highs
Alongside leaders from business, investment, civil society, academia and the health sector, we are calling on the Prime Minister to 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗮 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, alongside energy and defence.
