The Origins of Allergy in two pictures. We propose allergy starts when the barrier cell's energy supply fails; alarmins, Th2 cells and IgE follow. Today's treatments act further downstream. A hypothesis, tested across 116 cohorts. doi.org/10.1111/all.70532 #OriginsOfAllergy

Through the keyhole: one dataset shows a barrier cell almost not at all. Lay 116 cohorts over each other and a pattern appears: cells pulling apart, mitochondrial DNA proposed to spill out. Proposed, not yet measured. doi.org/10.1111/all.70532 #OriginsOfAllergy

From 1,856 catalogued series, 116 caseโ€“control cohorts met rules fixed in advance: 3,776 patients, 2,164 controls, 350 genes in 19 domains. Strongest in oesophagus and atopic skin (Hedges' g +1.70, +1.27); absent in established asthma and nasal polyps.

What drives allergy? IgE and cytokines are downstream. What makes alarmins and why? T2 is just another phenotype descriptor. We need to ask why and go above alarmins if we are to understand the root cause of allergies and why thy are rising.

You can see where I was going with this train of thought in July now: #OriginsOfAllergy #allergy doi.org/10.1111/all.70532 What happens above alarmins to shape allergy.

I forgot to add the overview videos. #OriginsOfAllergy #allergy doi.org/10.1111/all.70532 This is a summary video of what we found .. it has a lot of data so I will post a series of videos.

The Origins of Allergy | Outside-in Babies whose skin loses more water at 3 months are more likely to be sensitised by 6. We propose allergy builds outward from the barrier, layer by layer. Today's treatments act on the later layers. doi.org/10.1111/all.70532 #OriginsOfAllergy

Catching up with @TherapistTamara Hubbard at AAAAI2026. Complex food allergy needs a team. We have been connected online for years but great to finally meet in person. Her book โ€œMay Contain Anxietyโ€is worth a read.

At AAAAI meeting.. Philadelphia. Nic West is presenting work that I have been involved in. Some cool molecular and genomic data on atopic dermatitis and nasal polyps.

In China. Good to see that the cleaners have separate cloths for different tasks in this hotel. Good to see separate โ€œwipe glassesโ€ and โ€œwipe toiletโ€ cloths.

So sorry to hear this. Katie collected great data and helped build an allergy empire on Melbourne.

Could I be provocative to suggest that we need to consent parents of young children where we decide NOT to do OIT for milk, egg and peanut? By doing nothing we are doing something!!!
