What if you can improve LLMs using direct customer feedback? 🤔 Most alignment methods like RLHF or DPO require multiple outputs from the same prompt to improve the model by learning the preferred one. 👀 In real-world use cases, you oftentimes only have the option to collect one-dimensional feedback, e.g., whether the response was good or bad. This made using techniques like DPO and RLHF on real-world data only hard. 💬 KTO tries to simplify this by using binary feedback on individual outputs. 👍🏻👎🏻 This is less complex and can be directly used on real-world data. 🌍 How to use KTO: 1️⃣ Collect binary feedback data 2️⃣ Create a balanced (50/50) dataset out of triplets (prompt, response, feedback) 3️⃣ Apply KTO to a fine-tuned LLM using the dataset (2️⃣) 4️⃣ Evaluate outputs from the KTO model vs the old model using LLM as a judge or humans. Insights: 👩‍🔬 @ContextualAI ran 56 experiments using DPO, KTO, and PPO (RLHF) 🚀 KTO matches the performance of DPO & PPO 🦙 KTO showed better performance on bigger models (llama 1) 💡 Simplifies data requirements compared to DPO & RLHF ⚖️ Need a balanced binarized dataset (50% good 50% bad examples) Report: github.com/ContextualAI/HALO… Github: github.com/ContextualAI/HALO… KTO will soon be available in @huggingface TRL. 🤗 Huge Kudos to @douwekiela and the team from @ContextualAI for developing this new alignment method. 🚀

I once worked at a startup where they decided to put a guy with an MBA in charge of the Data Science team. No tech experience whatsoever. The whole team fell apart not long after that.

Excited to try chatGPT. Of course, it didn't work, but it does require your email address, phone number that can messageing but not virtual. The horrible system disappointed me again. don't bluff, do real things, ok? Another sbf!?

I advised several high school students in research each summer. This work was initiated and completed by two high school students with help by one undergraduate student, a graduate students and two professors. ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/st…
I truly believe a system like Twitter only needs 50 software engineers, and 50 software testers. It's funny many groups claim using agile development, but the truth is the scrum masters are anti-scrum, project owners are project destroyers. – at Allen, TX
It’s crazy how life works sometimes. I get to work with my mom, at the same hospital in the same department. She has been a janitor here for 18 years. She raised a Latina physician in the making! Thank you ama, I am so proud to be your daughter! #MedTwitter @LatinasInMed

I look forward to working with the new administration and leaders on both sides in Congress on getting the surging pandemic under control, engaging partners around the world on issues like poverty and climate change, and addressing issues of inequality and opportunity at home.
