🚫 MYTH: If a wild carnivore has hair loss, they must have mange.
✔️ FACT: Hair loss can have many causes, and not every patchy coat is a sign of disease.
Bad hair day? Not necessarily mange. Seasonal coat changes that can make wildlife look scruffy at certain times of year.
While mange can cause hair loss, it typically also involves irritated, thickened, crusted, or inflamed skin and may affect larger areas. Other factors, such as minor injuries, old scars, or normal variations in coat condition, can also result in small patches of missing fur.
When in doubt, observe from a distance and report concerns to your local wildlife agency or a licensed wildlife rehabilitator if an animal appears to be in distress. You can also find wildlife assistance through ahnow.org.

Colorado has confirmed its fifth reproducing wolf pack, the Piney Ridge pack in Eagle County, and pups were also born to three previously established packs this spring.
Every pup is a step forward, but recovery is far from complete. Each new generation a sign of hope.

This video captures the end of a wild encounter! According to #CaptureCoexistence photographer Larry Taylor, the coyote had been tailing the wolf for about a mile, likely trying to steer them away from the coyote's den.
