Dabney was right (about everything) because he understood the fundamental nature of the liberal project. He recognized that modern democracy, education, and social progress were not neutral or benevolent tools for human flourishing. He saw them as solvents.
Trying to "salvage" the MT by adding endless footnotes, explanatory glosses, or "scholarly" reinterpretations is identical to trying to "fix" a church that has become nothing more than a social club or a corporate entity. Spend your time building a heritage that will stand.
We are not called to salvage the MT. We are called to live by the Word that God actually preserved for us. The Apostles did not quote the MT. The Early Church Fathers did not argue from the MT. Our heritage lies in the LXX, the text that fueled the expansion of Christendom.
