Chris Paul says confidence isn’t a personality trait, it’s evidence you’ve put in the work: “I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t confident because you have to be confident. And the only way that you get confident is you got to put in the work… You really have to put in the work. When you show up for that Spanish test or that math test and you look at the test and you’re like, ‘Oh, I’m good,’ it’s because you prepared.” h/t @JoshChambers

So why didn’t the Class of 2021 receive the same extension? They were impacted by COVID just as much as the Class of 2020, yet the Class of 2020 received a fifth year of eligibility. Now the NCAA has changed the eligibility rules again, giving the Class of 2022 another year. So why was the Class of 2021 skipped? In the midst of all the COVID chaos, the Class of 2021 spent its entire four-year career competing against older players who had been granted extra eligibility. In many cases, they faced fifth- and even sixth-year athletes because the NCAA extended eligibility for previous classes. So why is the NCAA treating the Class of 2021 differently? It’s as if that entire class didn’t matter. There’s a class-action lawsuit, Peterson v. NCAA, seeking compensation to recover monetary damages for the Class of 2021 due to lost NIL opportunities and the unfair impact of being denied a fifth year of eligibility. I’m just trying to understand the NCAA’s reasoning because none of this makes sense. Can someone explain why the Class of 2021 was left out?
Just so everyone is clear on the NCAA’s new eligibility ruling: Any athlete who was a true freshman during the 2022–23 season and has played only four seasons of competition is now eligible to return for the upcoming season under the new five-season eligibility rule. However, if you were a redshirt freshman in 2022–23, or you took a medical/injury redshirt and have already spent five years in college, this ruling does not give you another season. Your eligibility has ended. This only applies to athletes who fall under the new eligibility criteria—it is not a blanket extra year for everyone.

HS class of ‘21 got completely screwed by the NCAA. Entered college immediately following covid19, which granted everyone older an extra year of eligibility. They pass the 5 for 5 once we graduate, then grant this year’s grads another year of eligibility. Zero love for our class

Literally! Our class got screwed big time🤦🏽‍♂️
So the Class of 2021 just gets swept under the rug? We dealt with the aftermath of COVID too, but somehow we’re expected to move on while other classes received additional flexibility. It’s hard not to feel overlooked.
