A rack drawing 7kW can run on two 5kW power feeds.
But it can't survive losing either one. The remaining feed would have to carry all 7kW.
When comparing colocation quotes, check the power available after a feed fails. Adding both feeds together hides that limit.
A Linux server can be exposed to CVE-2026-98432 even with just a website running and SSH locked down.
The flaw is in how Linux handles incoming TCP connections. No login is needed.
Check your Linux vendor’s advisory against the kernel you’re actually running.
If your Docker server keeps running out of disk space, check the container logs. They have no size limit by default.
You can add a limit, but existing containers keep their old settings. You’ll need to recreate those containers for the change to take effect.
If you run coding agents, check what’s still running after you close a session.
Browsers, test runners and dev servers can stay alive in the background, using RAM.
Before upgrading your VPS, check for leftovers from finished jobs. Stop only what you know is no longer needed.
Your backup says “successful.” Have you tried restoring it?
Use a fresh test server. Recover the database, start the app, and check the data.
Time the whole process.
That’s the recovery time to plan around, not how long the backup took.
Before buying a bigger server, find the bottleneck.
• CPU busy? Profile the code.
• Slow disk? Check I/O.
• Requests queued? Check worker limits.
• Waiting on the database? Check slow queries.
Your app may be waiting, not computing.

Memory matters more than most people think. On bare metal servers, how you choose and place RAM can help your slowest requests more than a CPU upgrade.
Keep data close to the CPU that is using it. If you have a dual-socket server, keep each app and data on the same socket to avoid extra hops.
