It has been a week since I shared this. The pipes are still very much there and still releasing sludge on the beach every day. @mybmcwardKW please share an update because the online complaint status says nothing.
I would also like to bring this to the attention of @MahaForest because this is happening where two Olive Ridley turtles (that we know of) attempted nesting in the last nesting season, but retreated because they were disturbed by people on the beach.
Is there any respite for the city's marine life?

I would like to draw the attention of journalists and @mybmcwardKW to this issue.
A construction site on Juhu Tara Road has been, for many days now, discharging sludge and water straight onto Juhu beach and into the sea.
High sediment loads in this discharge smothers benthic organisms and further increases siltation and turbidity.
This is troubling on its own, but it coincides with the season when cephalopods (squids, octopuses, and cuttlefish) use beaches in Mumbai as nursery grounds for their eggs. The continuous freshwater influx disrupts the salinity balance that intertidal species rely on to survive.

Thank you for covering this, @ranjeetnature.

Whom does one complain to about water from a construction site being released into the sea on a stretch of beach where Olive Ridley sea turtles had attempted nesting just last year?
Every single time I drive on the coastal road I see cars zipping through the tunnel all the way to the sealink. Countless cars, including government vehicles and police cars using the bus lane to overtake traffic.
It’s easy to blame the poor and underprivileged for not having civic sense, but neither use this road. It’s the ones doing the blaming, behaving like complete idiots.
Three persons were killed and another was critically injured after a BMW car met with an accident on the Coastal Road near Lotus Jetty, opposite Lala Lajpatrai College, early Sunday morning.
Four occupants were taken to Nair Hospital for treatment. Shanay Gajjal, 21, Dhirya Seth, 17, and an unidentified 25-year-old man were declared brought dead.
An unidentified 20-year-old man was admitted to the trauma ward and is in critical condition.
Further details about the accident and the identities of the deceased are awaited.
The CCTV cameras installed along the 11-km stretch between the Princess Street flyover and Worli have an upper number-plate capture capability of 120 kmph during the day and 100 kmph at night, depending on lighting conditions, according to Sanjeev Sehgal, managing director of Sparsh, the company that supplied the cameras.
Bravo, MCGM.

Can we please limit the “corporate sponsor” to one word, if used as a prefix before a station name on @MumbaiMetro3? This is getting ridiculous!
If they want to write stories, let them be suffixed to the name. Some of the Aqua Line station names are ridiculous!
Nippon India Mutual Fund Acharya Atre Chowk
ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund Santacruz Metro
And of course there’s also Mutual Funds Sahi Hai Andheri on @MumbaiMetro01.
Does the MCGM have the expertise to carry out a study like this? Will government research organisations who might be asked to carry them out be given the autonomy to publish results, even if they're contrary to the established narrative?
What's scary is that the article linked below also has this quote from a senior civic official privy to the assessment.
“Over the last five years, Mumbai’s shoreline has seen a massive transformation. The Coastal Road has come up along the western seafront, with more than 100 hectares of the Arabian Sea reclaimed. On the eastern side, salt pan lands have been identified for development. There has also been a change in the overall land-use pattern. Therefore, a fresh risk assessment was needed,” the official said.

80 crore for an undisturbed view of the Versova-Bandra Sealink. What a deal!
Pankaj is single-handedly doing more to protect the island’s people and biodiversity from tribal-right abuses and gross exploitation than the entire government machinery whose job it is.

“Shockingly, this bird list has only 29 names,” said Asad Rahmani, former director of Bombay Natural History Society, and one of India’s foremost ornithologists.

Delighted that my monograph on the history of elephants in Central India (from the Earliest Times to 1947) was released on World Elephant Day. This is the first-ever monograph published by @wii_india 's Journal of Wildlife Science.
This is a book-length reconstruction of the +
🐘 Thirty years of elephant conservation, in one issue.
On World Elephant Day, the Journal of Wildlife Science released its Special Issue, “30 Years of Elephant Conservation in India”, along with the journal's first Monograph, at the World Elephant Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam. The issue was released by Hon'ble Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh.
Guest-edited by M. Ananda Kumar, Honnavalli N. Kumara and Sanjeeta Sharma Pokharel, the issue carries seven contributions: three decades of Project Elephant, India's forgotten classical elephant science, elephant movement through the coffee landscapes of southern India, the kodo millet poisoning in Bandhavgarh, and two decades of elephant mortality in Chhattisgarh.

The Monograph, “Asian Elephants in Central India: A detailed history (From the earliest times to 1947)” by Raza Kazmi, reconstructs where elephants once walked across central India, from ancient and medieval texts to colonial shooting records. It also carries the journal's remembrances of Dr. Ajith Kumar and Shri Vinod Rishi, IFS.

I have never experienced anything like it. Entered the Coastal Road tunnel from Worli and in a couple of minutes saw 100s of people running towards us. Asked one person and he said “aage aag lagi hai”.
I’m not sure what was on fire or if there even was one, but many people just left their cars in the tunnel and ran out blocking the exit for anyone ahead of them.
Zero preparedness, complete chaos. These tunnels have need to have fire suppression systems and the people of Mumbai, lessons in preparedness in case of emergencies like this.

Soon enough the entire Missing Link will go missing.
Different stages of defending #missinglink :
1. No potholes, fake news.
2. Only 2 potholes are seen.
3. Heavy rains in ghat area caused landslide, no damage to structure.
4. Only one slab has collapsed.
5. Slab has collapsed on the entrance of the tunnel, nothing inside.
Shut up and have some shame. Let the govt and its head take accountability for their sins.

It’s impossible to keep up with misinformation that’s spreading on social media about the whale stranding in Bandra on Saturday morning.
From claims of it being a humpback whale to it being AI generated and the worst, that the whale was killed on purpose for oil and ambergris.
Some facts:
The Blue whale calf which was first noticed by staff working at the VBSL staff at around 7:30AM, who informed the Mumbai Police and the Mumbai Fire Brigade in an effort to start rescue efforts.
By the time the @MumbaiStranding team reached the site, the calf, which was injured and bleeding had passed away.
Do we need better infrastructure and reporting systems for such incidents? Yes.
But to say the whale was allowed to die or was deliberately killed is absolute rubbish and disrespectful to every person who was there that day.
Marine mammal science and conservation in India is in its nascency. We adapt to, and work with what we have, and we learn from each experience so the next time something similar happens we can be better prepared.
Thank you, @ranjeetnature for reporting what actually happened and getting the truth out. – at Mumbai, India
