Highlights from the second day of the 6th World Conference on International Arbitration
The Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) held a specialised arbitration seminar on Thursday, 5 November, at Qatar Chamber’s headquarters. The event was held as part of the activities accompanying the Sixth World Conference on International Arbitration.
The seminar was attended by H.E. Sheikh Dr. Thani bin Ali Al Thani, Vice Chairman of QICCA, and Mr. Ibrahim Shahbek, Secretary-General, alongside a distinguished group of legal experts, arbitration practitioners, and students from Qatar University and Lusail University. The seminar was moderated by the center’s legal counsel, Mr. Khaled Al-Jarhi.

نظم مركز قطر الدولي للتوفيق والتحكيم، اليوم الخميس 5 نوفمبر 2026، بمقر غرفة قطر، ندوة تحكيمية متخصصة ضمن الفعاليات المصاحبة للمؤتمر العالمي السادس للتحكيم الدولي، بحضور سعادة الشيخ الدكتور ثاني بن علي آل ثاني، نائب رئيس مجلس إدارة المركز، والسيد إبراهيم شهبيك، الأمين العام، وبمشاركة نخبة من الأكاديميين والخبراء في مجال القانون والتحكيم الدولي، إلى جانب طلبة جامعتي قطر ولوسيل، وادار الندوة المستشار القانوني للمركز السيد خالد الجارحي.
وتحدث في الندوة البروفيسور لوكاس ميستيليس، الشريك بمكتب «ستيبـتو» في المملكة المتحدة، ومدير مدرسة التحكيم الدولي بمركز دراسات القانون التجاري في جامعة كوين ماري بلندن، والدكتور عثمان نور عثمان، الأستاذ المشارك في القانون التجاري بجامعة لوسيل.

Highlights from the fifth session, titled "International Arbitration in Practice: From the Arbitration Agreement to the Enforcement of the Award.
The Sixth World Conference on International Arbitration concluded on Wednesday with a set of key recommendations aimed at advancing arbitration, enhancing its efficiency and keeping pace with legislative and technological developments.
Held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the two-day conference was organised by the Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA), at the Qatar Chamber, held under the theme “ADR in a Changing World: From Judicial Oversight to AI”.
The recommendations were presented during the closing session by Mr. Ibrahim Shahbek, Secretary-General of QICCA, in the presence of H.E. Sheikh Dr. Thani bin Ali Al Thani, Vice Chairman of QICCA, and a group of judges, arbitrators and legal experts from around the world.

اختتم المؤتمر العالمي السادس للتحكيم الدولي، الذي عقد على مدى يومين تحت رعاية معالي الشيخ محمد بن عبدالرحمن بن جاسم آل ثاني، رئيس مجلس الوزراء وزير الخارجية بمجموعة من التوصيات التي تهدف إلى تطوير منظومة التحكيم الدولي، وتعزيز كفاءتها ومواكبة المتغيرات التشريعية والتكنولوجية.
نظم المؤتمر مركز قطر الدولي للتوفيق والتحكيم التابع لغرفة قطر، تحت عنوان "الوسائل البديلة لتسوية المنازعات في عالم متغير: من الرقابة القضائية إلى الذكاء الاصطناعي" بفندق فيرمونت الدوحة يومي 3 و4 نوفمبر 2026.

HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatar Chamber and Chairman of the Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA), attended part of the second day’s sessions of the 6th World Conference on International Arbitration and met with a number of participants.
قام سعادة الشيخ خليفة بن جاسم بن محمد ال ثاني رئيس مجلس إدارة غرفة قطر ورئيس مجلس إدارة مركز قطر الدولي للتوفيق والتحكيم، بحضور جانب من جلسات اليوم الثاني للمؤتمر العالمي السادس للتحكيم الدولي، والتقى سعادته مع عدد من المشاركين في المؤتمر.
The fourth session addressed "The Ethics of Arbitration in the Face of AI," examining the ethical and professional considerations arising from the growing use of artificial intelligence in arbitration proceedings. The session was moderated by Dr. Ahmed Zayed Al Mohannadi, Founder and Chairman of Aletefaq Law Firm.
وتناولت الجلسة الرابعة موضوع "أخلاقيات التحكيم في مواجهة الذكاء الاصطناعي"، برئاسة الدكتور أحمد زايد المهندي، مؤسس ورئيس مجلس إدارة مكتب الاتفاق للمحاماة.
وناقشت الجلسة الثالثة موضوع "المرأة والتحكيم بين الواقع والمأمول"، حيث سلطت الضوء على واقع مشاركة المرأة في مجال التحكيم، والتحديات التي تواجهها، وآفاق تعزيز حضورها وإسهاماتها في هذا المجال. وترأست الجلسة الدكتورة نورة السهلاوي، محكم ومفوض معتمد بمركز قطر الدولي للتوفيق والتحكيم والمحامي بالتمييز وأستاذ القانون العام بجامعة قطر
The third session, titled "Women and Arbitration: Progress, Challenges, and the Road Ahead," examined women's participation in arbitration, the challenges they face, and opportunities to expand their contribution to the profession. It was moderated by Dr. Noura Al Sahlawi, Accredited Arbitrator and Mediator at the Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration, Lawyer before the Court of Cassation and professor of public law at Qatar University.

Moderated by Eng. Saad Hegazy, Ciarb MENA Trustee, and QICCA arbitrator, the second panel, titled "Mediation: The Flexibility of Settlement and Mechanisms for Integration with Arbitration," explored the role of mediation in resolving disputes and ways to strengthen its integration with arbitration.
