Judge Gleason dismissed the DOJ lawsuit attempting to delay certification of the U.S. Senate race in Alaska if @SenDanSullivan loses the race to @MaryPeltola due to Decoy Dan Sullivan being on the ballot.

Hearing a lot of national media repeating @GovDunleavy’s statement about possibly not certifying Alaska’s U.S. Senate election. There’s one problem with that. In Alaska the lieutenant governor, not the governor, oversees elections and is responsible for certifying the election.

The deep but receding 2030 peak-oil-demand consensus is revealing a structural shortage in Atlantic Basin refining assets. Recently deemed to be "stranded," they're now prized.
OECD gasoline and diesel demand is not cratering, as the peak-demand narrative expected. EV subsidies, mandates, and fuel economy standards are too weak and temporary.
Who would've thunk?
Have a safe and happy weekend.

For some historical context on the U.S. Senate race in Alaska between @SenDanSullivan and @MaryPeltola:
In 2008, Democrat Mark Begich (who was then mayor of Anchorage) beat incumbent Sen. Ted Stevens (who had served in the U.S. Senate since 1968) by just 3,953 votes, or 1.25%. Alaska Independence Party candidate Bob Bird received 13,197 votes.
8 days prior to that, Stevens was found guilty on several counts relating to receiving gifts for a home renovation (he was eventually cleared of that bogus prosecution but it was not until April 2009).
Just like the wall-to-wall coverage now about Mary Peltola and the Decoy Dan Sullivan scheme, there was wall-to-wall coverage right before the 2008 election when Stevens was found guilty.
While the two situations are not directly comparable, what is comparable is that a ton of negative coverage about one of the candidates in a high profile Senate race in Alaska has a precedent in resulting in a very close outcome, especially with a spoiler candidate in the race.
Note that Sullivan beat Begich in 2014 by 6,014 votes, or 2.13%.

Today’s New York Times reporting reveals disturbing new evidence of an organized effort to manipulate Alaska’s elections by recruiting candidates—including one with the same name as an incumbent U.S. Senator—to deliberately confuse voters and misdirect their votes. The Alaska Division of Elections investigated these very concerns in June of this year. The new reporting substantially supports the Division’s findings.
I am therefore directing the Department of Public Safety to investigate whether this scheme violated Alaska’s laws and whether criminal charges or civil action are warranted. The evidence will determine what happens next.
Alaskans have a fundamental right to vote for the candidate they actually intend to support. Deliberately tricking voters into casting their ballots for someone else strikes at the integrity of our elections.
Anyone or any organization found to have broken the law must be held accountable.

Look, I'm in a state where there are two Fords on the Dem side running for gov. Forget that, though.
The most amazing part of the NYT Alaska story is not only did these clumsy Dems lie about their involvement, but the key player tried to retract her admission of guilt!
But!

Trump: "It has just been determined that the Democrats in Alaska illegally searched for, and recruited, a man named Dan Sullivan to run against our distinguished Republican Senator, Dan Sullivan, in order to defraud, confuse, and obfuscate the Election, thereby taking votes away from the REAL Senator, Dan Sullivan. The New York Times reports that, 'Democrats have insisted they have nothing to do with the other Dan Sullivan on Alaska’s Senate ballot. But aides with the Mary Peltola campaign and DSCC were part of a monthslong secret plan to recruit him to run — as well as other candidates.' The Democrats’ false statements were made under oath in Federal Court. Therefore, they perjured themselves, and should be liable for very serious consequences. Mary Peltola should suffer the Legal and Political consequences for what she has done, A FRAUD ON THE AMERICAN PUBLIC, and Dan Sullivan should be allowed to run without either Mary Peltola or FAKE Dan Sullivan on the Ballot. President DONALD J. TRUMP"

BREAKING: Sen @lisamurkowski just provided the Landmine with this powerful statement following the @nytimes scathing article on @MaryPeltola’s involvement in the Decoy Dan Sullivan scheme:
“While some may try to write this off as just how politics works now, ballot-stacking should have no place in our electoral process. Run and win on your merits: your views, your policy ideas, and your accomplishments. By contrast, recruiting candidates to manipulate the field and influence voting outcomes is simply wrong. Alaskans deserve the honest truth from Mary and her campaign—what has been revealed is a pattern of lies and coverups and a culture of deception that belongs nowhere in our elections or among our elected officials.”

The coverup is always worse than the crime. They shoulda owned up to it.

Fantastic reporting by @nytimes @Kellen_Browning on Alaska Senate race.
Extraordinarily great writing too.
Will impact the race, I believe.
A lot of people seem to have reacted to being exposed by lying.
The reckoning will be ugly for @MaryPeltola

So this is wild. Daniel J. Sullivan (Decoy Dan) has a son Noah. Noah works for Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, the co-chair of the Blue Dog Democrats.
When @MaryPeltola was in Congress, she was a co-chair of the Blue Dog Democrats along with… Gluesenkamp Perez!
The odds of Decoy Dan filing to run against @SenDanSullivan and Decoy Dan’s son workin for Gluesenkamp Perez being a coincidence are near zero.

I was delighted to discover a recent working paper on the end of duopoly electric competition in Lubbock in the process of pulling together this thread. The article link is in a comment. Lubbock's curious electric history warrants more attention.
Replying to @BorensteinS
@BorensteinS gives us the "econ 101" treatment of natural monopoly in a post on electric prices. My photo from Lubbock Texas offers evidence that there is more to the story. Lubbock had 93 years of duopoly competition between electric utilities, both of which wired the town.
