Four coaches. Motorbike outriders. A rolling convoy of police vans and cars. Locals blocked from their own roads. All so roughly 120 men who crossed the Channel in a dinghy could be driven out of Gosport Haslar Marina under protection that most of the country will never receive for anything.
This isnโt a state visit. It isnโt royalty. Itโs the reception for people who entered without permission, before any real vetting has happened, while the bill for the boats, the RNLI call-outs, the overnight security and the coach escort lands on taxpayers who had no say in the landing.
Coastal towns keep getting told the system is under control.
Then the sirens turn up again.
