Two weeks ago, @xMercy_CS and I joined EsportFire for an interview regarding the state and future of the CS2 market.
I would like to post some key takeaways, my personal view on the situation, and where my views conflict with @xMercy_CS

What to do?
We both lean toward longer-term holdings in rare/discontinued/collector items rather than chasing hypes. The market is a game with a market attached. Not the other way around (something these Chinese pump & dump groups fail to realize)
@xMercy_CS is more positive and considers it now a good time to start buying and considers stocking up.
I would personally say: Don't buy. Too many people are trying to catch a bottom, which I think is high-risk, low-reward. In my opinion, you're better off to sit back and watch the bottom take shape before you buy in. You might miss out on the exact bottom, but you will still be able to buy in at relatively low prices. If you are not actively flipping CS2 items, it's better to not enter the market at all for now.
If you are holding a lot of value in CS2 items, and you feel like you're losing more than you can afford to lose, I would still recommend to sell and get out.
Short overall summary
We both see the drop as driven by a weak game + player-base issues and the fallout from Valve’s tradeups/reversal changes. We both still favor rare/discontinued collector pieces over the long term.
The big difference is tone and timing:
@xMercy_CS treats this as a classic cyclical reset (healthy, and close to a normal recovery), so he’s comfortable starting to buy and hold now.
I am much more focused on Valve’s repeated confidence-destroying updates, rising supply, and the risk that this time the game itself is in real trouble. I wouldn't chase the bottom, prefer waiting or make quick flips. Watch player numbers + community sentiment as make-or-break signals into November.
Same diagnosis, but different conviction on whether this is “a normal cycle” or a more structural problem.
