Small-town author. Big-time cardigan knitter. Hopeful - not hopeless - romantic. My feel-good rom-com ‘You Were Summer’ is out now. https://nitter.cf/t.co/jgd1DpHAP7

Summer is over. So I just thought, it's the perfect time to reread one of my favourite books.😉 Plus, my autumn reading always needs: - a sultry contractor - the cutest stray dog - more than one semicolon amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CNDYN5W6 #Romcom #TheLakeDistrict #YouWereSummer

I would join X sooner and listen to what other authors, who are at various stages of the writing journey, have to say. I know for certain I would've done everything differently. Everything. But, hey ho. I'm on X now. 😊
Hey, fellow writers... If you had the chance to go back to the beginning of your writing journey and do it all over again, what one thing would you do differently? #WritingCommunity #amwriting

Come on, M&S. Do you really think a bare-chested, towel-wearing James Norton has me excited about seeing the first airing of your three-minute Christmas ad tomorrow?

Happy belated birthday to my first celebrity crush.🥰 Stand and Deliver was the first single I bought, and I still love listening to the album. I also remember being woken up by the opening bars of this song when my record player turned itself on in the middle of the night!!👻
Adam & The Ants- Stand And Deliver❤️❤️ Happy 72nd Birthday to Stuart Leslie Goddard🥳🎉🎊🎂 aka Adam Ant,an English singer, musician, and actor who rose to massive fame as a pioneer of the New Wave and New Romantic movements. He first achieved stardom as the charismatic frontman of the band Adam and the Ants.

I agree. 🥹
I'm not sure who created this video, but it's deeply touching.

Despite living in a small English village and having zero to little interest in our UK politics, whenever there's a US midterm or presidential election I'm like...

Often in movies, when someone is stranded without their phone and they borrow one or find a payphone to call their parent/other half/best friend, how is it they know their number off by heart? The only number I know is my own - and I've even been known to forget that!

My "real" surname is long; I've had people treat it like a triple-barrel name as opposed to a double. Years ago, I was a retail manager who had to authorise returns and such with a quick signature. Over time, I condensed its many loops. This is pretty much what it looks like:

I wonder if genuine book marketers are as exasperated with the fake ones as we are?

I've watched the latest John Lewis Christmas ad, and I wish they'd go back to making memorable ads that tug at the heartstrings, instead of weighing the ads down with meaningful messages. 2014 - a great ad to sell a stuffed penguin. 2015 - another corker selling telescopes.

When someone offers to bore me - sorry, *show* me - one of their 2,300 photos on their phone, I use the same excuse. "I'll save you the hassle. I won't be able to see it - I'm wearing the wrong glasses." The truth is, if I take my glasses off, I can see photos - just not theirs.

A good Halloween for trick or treaters at my house: 101 in total. A new record! What's lovely is, I've seen so many children in my village grow up. Their parents have brought them since they were tots; now, some of them are almost teenagers. It's an absolute pleasure.😊

Halloween always feels like a great day for me to give people-pleasing a rest.

I've never written a character like me. And I'm nothing like my MC in You Were Summer: she allows her significant ex to linger in her life; she thinks only 2 things don't lie - kids and leggings; she uses trivia as a diversionary tacti— Did you know pocket fuzz is called gnurr?
Have you ever written a character that's like you?

I'll include this in my list of current hobbies: reading, knitting, eyerolling, procrastinating, gardening... and now, latibulating.
If the world is getting a little too much may I recommend the inexplicably obsolete word ‘latibulating’, from the 17th century? To latibulate is to find a cosy corner somewhere and hide in it.

I have a full evening ahead. Fortunately, I don't have to go any further than my front garden. Phew! It's my village's fireworks display at 7pm, then the final Celebrity Traitors (I hope Michael Sheen survived last night!), and THEN... a double eviction on Big Brother. Yay!🥳

Following on from my post earlier this month about the supposed airbag check on my pa's 13yo car from a certain garage - and my response to them as to whether the check was merely a ploy to get an 80yo man into the showroom - this email came today. Hmmmm... 🤨
It's rare I speak up. Perhaps it's the Buddhist in me. Or I'm at that fabulous age where - quite simply - I can't be bothered. Water off a duck's back, and all that. But the other day, I received one customer survey too many. So, I said my piece. And it felt... great.😌

This is what my feelgood romcom and I would really, really like to be saying to readers who buy a copy of You Were Summer this Christmas:
