Dear Duel Arena Management, My name is (redacted), and I am writing as a longtime fight fan who is deeply concerned, disturbed, and disappointed by what I witnessed during tonight’s event, particularly in connection with the Gypsy vs. Ben Azoulay fight. I have always enjoyed combat sports and supported promotions that allow fighters to compete intensely, express themselves, and build rivalries. However, there must be a clear distinction between competitive promotion and the open display or promotion of antisemitism, racism, and Nazi ideology. During tonight’s event, I witnessed several incidents that I believe crossed that line. Gypsy openly displayed an “SS” tattoo on his body. The SS, or Schutzstaffel, was a Nazi organization created under Adolf Hitler and became one of the principal organizations responsible for carrying out the Nazi regime’s persecution and mass murder of Jews and other targeted groups. His coach was also permitted to appear during the televised event wearing a shirt that stated, “F*** Israel.” Following the fight, during the post-fight interview, Gypsy appeared to direct the antisemitic slur “k*ke” toward Ben Azoulay. He also made what appeared to be a Nazi-style salute. Additionally, a spectator was apparently permitted to bring and openly display a Nazi flag inside the venue during the event, and that imagery was visible during the broadcast. Taken individually, each of these incidents would be disturbing. Taken together, they created an environment in which antisemitic and Nazi imagery, rhetoric, and behavior appeared to be tolerated on a public platform. This goes far beyond trash talk between fighters. Ben Azoulay is Jewish, and allowing a fighter, his team, or spectators to direct antisemitic slurs, display Nazi symbolism, or engage in Nazi gestures in connection with a Jewish opponent is something I believe your organization has a responsibility to address. I am a strong supporter of free expression, and I understand that combat sports frequently involve provocative language and heated promotion. However, freedom of expression does not mean a promotion has to provide its platform, venue, broadcast, or brand to discriminatory harassment, racial hatred, antisemitism, or the glorification of Nazi ideology. I would therefore like to know what Duel Arena intends to do in response to what occurred tonight. Specifically, I believe your organization should review the broadcast and available footage, investigate the conduct of the fighter and his corner, investigate how Nazi imagery was permitted inside the venue, publicly clarify whether this behavior violates Duel Arena’s standards, and explain what measures will be taken to prevent similar conduct at future events. Silence or inaction after something this serious can easily be interpreted by fans and the public as acceptance or tolerance of that behavior. I sincerely hope that is not what Duel Arena stands for. I would appreciate a formal response explaining what actions the organization intends to take going forward. My decision to continue supporting Duel Arena including attending, purchasing, promoting, and watching future events will depend heavily on how your company chooses to respond. If this conduct is ignored or treated as acceptable promotion, I also intend to bring my concerns and the available footage to media organizations and other appropriate outlets so that the issue can receive public scrutiny. This is not about being offended by normal fight promotion. It is about drawing a clear line against antisemitism, racism, Nazi symbolism, and discriminatory harassment. I hope Duel Arena takes this matter as seriously as many members of the Jewish community and other concerned viewers will. Sincerely, (redacted)
