The post-colonial bourgeoisie, the native elite class that inherited political & economic power after independence, often remained conspicuously detached from the very people they claimed to represent. They withdrew behind gates, titles, & patronage networks, retreating into echo chambers & isolating themselves from the people whose interests they professed to champion.
Shielded from criticism & insulated from everyday hardship, they governed from above rather than among. Somali elites have reproduced this tradition with remarkable fidelity. The Somali bourgeoisie, our political elite, invoke the public at every opportunity, yet avoids public opinion whenever it becomes inconvenient. They seek leadership without exposure, authority without scrutiny, & representation without genuine representation itself.
@OmarSharmarke, if only a narrow band of approved opposition voices can engage with you publicly (i.e. in your comments section 👇🏽), what happens to the countless others whose perspectives are excluded by design? What kind of political culture is being nurtured here? One confident enough to accommodate disagreement, or one so fragile that it must curate its audience before it can speak?
A leader confident in his ideas welcomes the marketplace of opinion. He should not fear dissent, filter criticism, or narrow the circle of acceptable voices.
The great danger that Somalia faces today is that problems of political nature which are essentially manageable are allowed to spiral out of control leading to an escalation, confrontation and polarization. It is our collective responsibility to prevent this from happening but mainly is the FGS responsibility to come up with a sober analysis and a genuine solution to the situation at hand before political grievances and local conflicts submerge within the wider conflict with the terror groups

The 22nd Gorgor Brigade of the Somali National Army is making final preparations for the completion of its military training programme in Türkiye, with the graduation ceremony scheduled to take place tomorrow, Saturday.
Türkiye continues to strongly support the development and strengthening of the Somali National Army through military training, capacity building, and defence cooperation, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance Somalia’s security capabilities.
That the former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court traveled to Nairobi, Kenya, a week ago, where agreements were reportedly reached; that he took up a lawsuit brought by the opposition; that today he issued a ruling against the government; and that tonight he defected to the opposition without having handed over the office from which he was dismissed—what connects all these events?
As we searched for an answer to that question, we were informed that recently there were contacts between members of the opposition and judges of the Supreme Court.
According to information reaching us, those contacts ultimately led to the dismissed Chief Justice and some of his associates presenting themselves tonight directly at the home of Sheikh Sharif, one of the opposition leaders.
The question that still requires an answer is: will the financial rewards reportedly promised for executing this plan actually be paid out, given that—as indicated—not everything went as planned?
