WATCH: It’s 10 years of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act. As a long time supporter of the RPwDA movement, I was delighted to share my experiences of media coverage (or often the lack of it) of the disability movement with Radio Udaan, a platform that gives disabled persons a voice . We are very grateful to Mr. Sardesai for giving us his valuable inputs. He speaks about the importance of ensuring that political parties walk The talk on Disability and that reforms are pursued in the states, not just in Delhi. @Vidhi_India @MissionAccess_ nitter.cf/sardesairajdeep/status…
Was a pleasure to speak with @sardesairajdeep on the 10th anniversary of the rights of persons with disabilities act 2016. He gave many constructive inputs on how we can increase accessibility and public consciousness of disability issues. @MissionAccess_ @Vidhi_India

Supreme Court hears an urgent mentioning by a Belarusian woman facing deportation from India. Counsel says her Indian husband is 80% disabled and bedridden, and seeks urgent listing of her SLP against the High Court order affirming her deportation.
Adv Rahul Bajaj: I am the wife of an Indian national. I am a Belarusian national. My husband is an Indian national with 80% disability. He is bedridden. A deportation order has been issued against me, which the High Court has affirmed. I am only pressing that the SLP may be listed tomorrow because there is urgency by virtue of the deportation order.
CJI Surya Kant: There is no urgency. We can list on August 31 or start of September. Deportation will not happen like this. Deportation orders in our country takes a lot of time to get executed..

Mission Accessibility,Delivery is dealing with concerns and issues of disability community id diverse areas of public life:
Says Disability advocacy lawyer @rahul400 :
We conducted a detailed session in Tihar Jail yesterday for inmates with disabilities. at the outset, we informed them that they are entitled to priority hearing in cases involving them, which is something that most of them were unaware of. because their main grievance was that their cases are taking too long.
Second, some of them did not have a disability certificate, and we asked them to pursue that. we also had some inmates with visual disabilities, who complained that they are not being provided white cane and reading material in accessible formats given their Disability. the computer in their Library also does not have a screen reader. We have made a note of all of these points and will write to the chairperson of the Delhi High Court Legal Services Committee with a request to ensure that all of these issues are resolved expeditiously.
More power to Mission Accessibility team.

Thank you to everyone for checking in on my health. I’m fine, although my leg could be better.
But I am disgusted at happened at Jantar Mantar and in Delhi today. Across the country, we need to raise our voice against this injustice. Now or never.
I was allowed to participate as an intervener in this matter and have been prepared to address the court for almost 3 years, but the matter never gets taken out

ZEE5 gave a very legalistic response to the legal notice, refusing to make their platform accessible for people with disabilities. I have therefore been forced to file a writ petition against them. Such discrimination cannot be allowed to go unaddressed. @ZEE5India
