France, 1897, a double-decker train more than 125 years ago! This remarkable early film shows a double-decker suburban train arriving at Joinville-le-Pont, just outside Paris, on the Vincennes railway line. These unusual carriages provided extra capacity for the growing numbers travelling between Paris and its suburbs. Passengers could travel on the open upper deck, reached by external steps. Filmed by French cinema pioneer Auguste Baron in 1897, it captures everyday commuters at a time when moving pictures themselves were still an astonishing new invention. #Paris #1890s #RailwayHistory #Trains #VictorianEra

In 1896, England opened one of the strangest railways ever built. The Brighton and Rottingdean Seashore Electric Railway didn't run beside the sea. It ran through it. Designed by Brighton inventor Magnus Volk, the railway used tracks laid along the seabed between Brighton and Rottingdean. Its enormous passenger car, nicknamed “Daddy Long-Legs”, stood high above the waves on four 7-metre-long legs, carrying passengers across the water. The railway finally closed in 1901, when new sea defences forced the track to be moved. For a few extraordinary years, passengers travelling along the Sussex coast could quite literally take a train through the sea.

Kansas completed. Lots of detail in the southeast corner of Kansas - I've had trouble with all the mining spurs and interurbans, so let me know if you have more information. Still need to update the Legend and the Modern Railroads layer. RailMapOnline.com

From it's creation in 1918, Ford aerodrome in West Sussex has had a large number of different users. In the 1930s, the Ford Motor Company decided to use it as a base for their European aircraft sales department. At least they didn't need to change it's name! 😂
