What actually happens to your ballot?
Mark it: by hand or on an accessible ballot-marking device.
Scan it: counted at your polling place or a central office.
Keep the paper: nearly every system keeps a paper record that can be checked by hand.
Held to a standard: certified equipment is tested to roughly one error per 10 million ballot positions.
In 2024, over 98% of election jurisdictions used paper ballots or auditable paper records (U.S. Election Assistance Commission). That paper is what makes recounts and audits possible.

AI can now imitate election officials, and chatbots can confidently give the wrong date, hours, or polling location. This month, New York's attorney general updated her voter guide after testing found chatbots giving wrong deadlines and false voting requirements.
Spot it: be wary of surprise messages, videos, or chatbot answers about when, where, or how to vote.
Check it: confirm with your state or county election office before you act on it or share it.
Report it: tell your election office. Knowingly spreading false voting information to keep people from voting can be illegal.
The most reliable source for any voting claim is the office that runs your election.

Five days out, four quick checks make Tuesday simple:
1. Confirm your registration. Missed the deadline? 24 states and D.C. offer same-day registration.
2. Find your polling place, then check again before you go. Locations can change close to Election Day.
3. Know your state's ID rule. Requirements vary by state.
4. Preview your full ballot. Voters will decide 145 statewide measures on November 3.
All four take a few minutes on your state's Can I Vote page (link in bio or below), which links to your state's official election site.

Accurate, certified results don't require keeping the public in the dark until certification.
@jaldendaniels explains how preliminary tallies, updated as ballots arrive, give voters transparency on election night while officials still verify every ballot before certifying.

The ranked choice tabulation itself? A click of a button.
As Utah County Clerk, @jaldendaniels produced RCV results on election night. The delays elsewhere come from collecting, verifying, and centralizing ballots, not from the ranked choice count.

Forget AI slop. @katieharbath is watching "AI candy": AI content we can't detect and don't mind because it's entertaining. Why that matters for politics heading into 2028, from her Disrupting Politics launch with @SarahEHunt01 and @robsmithonline.

Ranked choice voting doesn't cause delayed results. The tally takes seconds.
Former Utah County Clerk @jaldendaniels ran Utah's first RCV elections. In our new Substack, he explains that the real bottlenecks are mail ballot windows and whether states release preliminary tallies. With Alaska and Maine's Senate races in the spotlight, faster and more transparent reporting builds trust.
