โก๏ธ OREO GIRL IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS -She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display challenging behavior during interactions. She is extremely intelligent and high energy, and needs to expend energy constructively with interactive play sessions 3-4X/day. In addition to playtime, this cat would also benefit from mental exercise from activities such as puzzle toys/games, lick mats, or clicker training. Without providing activity for her mind and body, the cat may react with rough play, potentially resulting in bite/scratch incidents. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ

โก๏ธ 62 DAYS IN SHELTER โ TOO LONG โ TIME IS RUNNING OUT
โก๏ธ PROFESSOR IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS - While social in the shelter with familiar caretakers, Professor has a bite/scratch history. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
What my friends at ACC say about me: My purr motor is always running! I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. Professor is laying on top of his den, front paws hanging over the edge as he observes the room around him. When the kennel door is opened, he leans forward to sniff the assessor's hand, allowing and leaning into petting on the head and cheeks. He is able to be coaxed down from the top of the den with a squeeze up, quickly beginning to eat it as the assessor holds it out in front of him. Professor appears a bit unsure of his current environment, tensing, body rippling, and looking around the room as noises occur or as other cats begin to meow. He tolerates all petting, tail held high in a question mark position. Professor is slowly coaxed out of the kennel, hesitantly stepping out and lip licking. He is able to be easily picked up, remaining calm and purring when he is held. When he is placed back into the kennel, he remains at the front, continuing to allow and lean into all further petting and attention. Although Professor is social, tolerant, and friendly with handler in the shelter, he does have a bite/scratch history in his previous home that may require further investigation before placement in a home. โค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ป

โก๏ธ TRUCKER IS ON THE EPL FOR MEDICAL REASONS - Trucker is a senior cat that has been diagnosed with diabetes and dental disease. He is currently on treatment for diabetes mellitus with an oral medication called Senvelgo. Trucker will need veterinary follow-up to manage his comorbidities. Behaviorally, he can get a bit grumpy with medical handling and will growl occasionally. This evaluation/diagnosis means that TRUCKER will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ

I am a sweet, social, older gentleman, looking for the perfect forever home! I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. A volunteer writes: Trucker hasn't had the easiest time as of late, but this cat is all kinds of perfect and resolutely hoping that things will turn his way. He's a diabetic senior who was found and taken in pretty recently but brought to us a few weeks later due to a no pet policy. During Trucker's time in a home, he knew he was loved. Trucker would sit on his guardian's lap and gently paw at their face for more pets. Trucker's still trying to find those cuddles by stretching his paws through the door and calling out invitations to anyone walking nearby. Playful and sweet, he only wants to be included and he's absolutely right to keep trying because, truth be told, Trucker does need to work a tiny bit harder to stand out but stand out he does. He's a bit older and has his medical concerns, but he also has his heart and I think that's enough to make him one of the brightest kitties around. โค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ป

He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
What my friends at ACC say about me: Tuna appreciates attention and petting, and is very people social - however he has shown major improvement related to his threshold for petting and interactions -however it should be noted that he may have the potential for overstimulation, has a high level of energy, and is very demanding of petting. Any potential adopter should have experience with overstimulation, be capable of reading body language, and know how to interact and end petting/interactions before Tuna has a chance to escalate. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home. My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. I have potential behavior challenges that staff will address with you when you meet me. Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some feline body language together! I am playful and cute! I am not one to sit still! ๐จWOW!!!
A 17-year-old who was just named HOMECOMING KING looked over and saw his friend with Down Syndrome who had been DREAMING of being homecoming kind for years...
...so he took off his crown, GAVE IT TO HIM, and led the ENTIRE SCHOOL in cheering for him!!! ๐ญ
The two boys hugged right there in the middle of the gym. โค๏ธ
You see, this took place at Mahanoy Area High School in Pennsylvania.
That year, yhere were only two nominees for homecoming king that year, Keni... and his friend, 17-year-old Axton Kuhl.
Axton has Down syndrome and Axton had been dreaming of homecoming for YEARS.
His mom says he talked about becoming king over and over.
But when all the votes were cast, they called called Keniโs name, not Axton.
But then, Keni looked over at Axton and knew just what he had to do.
He walked over, took off his crown and sash, and put them on his friend, then led the ENTIRE SCHOOL in cheering for him.
Axton broke down into tears.
But hereโs the part you don't know...
Keni has a little brother with autism.
He says he did it because heโd want someone to show HIS brother that same kindness if it were ever him standing in that gym.
THIS IS THE AMERICA I KNOW!!! ๐บ๐ธ๐บ๐ธ๐บ๐ธ

What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy!

โก๏ธ UDON IS ON THE EPL FOR MEDICAL REASONS โ He is a sweet, young adult cat with a severe upper respiratory infection. He is not eating and needs supportive care in a veterinary clinic in order to recover. Behaviorally, Udon is caustious to accept pets due to FAS but he will tolerate handling for medical treatments. NOT EATING/APPETITE ISSUES ARE A DEATH SENTENCE IN SHELTER. This evaluation/diagnosis means that UDON will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
A volunteer writes: Udon is a cute Tabby boy part of a large family of cats(fifteen to be more precise). Their owner lost their home and all the housemates had to come to the Manhattan Care Center. We do not know anything about Udon, his true temperament, his behavior with his friends or his owner...Nothing. At the care center, he is a shy soul, staying at the back of his cubby but more recently(see his video), accepting caresses, leaning slightly into pets and closing his eyes with gentle words. He even made biscuits for me and another volunteer. Something good is cooking here ad I hope that Udon will soon reveal what a good and sweet cat he truly is. Like his housemates(they all have been adopted!!), Udon needs to be discovered, adopted and join a new family for many years of shared happiness. Come and meet Udon very soon at the Manhattan Care Center! Update:Udon is really a very nice cat who has come a long way!He is not shy at all anymore but I knew he was getting there, slowly but surely. Udon has a big cold but his sweet nature and his love for attention and cuddles still drive him to seek all the love he can get!!!Udon needs your help now! He is sooo worth your attention! ๐จPLEASE HELP US BRING OUR ZEUS HOME! ๐จ
Interstate-55 travelers in southwest Mississippi.
๐จโ๐Sharing this because some great people have worked really hard to find ZEUS and they need our help:
โ
๐To the good people of Summit, Mississippi, and our neighbors throughout Pike County,
โ
We are Shari and Charles Shackelford, and we're asking for your help finding our beloved Great Dane, Zeus.
โ
On September 21, we were involved in a terrible vehicle accident on Interstate-55, just south of the Summit exit. During the accident, Zeus became frightened and ran from the scene.
โ
Because of our injuries, we were being transported to the hospital and couldn't search for him. Leaving that scene without our boy was heartbreaking, and four weeks later, we're still praying for the day we can bring him home to South Carolina.
โ
NEW POSSIBLE SIGHTINGS IN SUMMIT, MS!
โ
We've received several possible sightings around Robb Street, Summit Exit 20A, and Robb Street Extension East.
โ
Most recently, two possible sightings were reported on October 19 and October 21 in the Summit area. We've included a map showing those locations.
โ
We want to emphasize that NEITHER SIGHTING HAS BEEN CONFIRMED TO BE ZEUS. However, these reports give us hope that someone in the area may have information that could help us find him.
โ
WE NEED YOUR HELP, SUMMIT, MS!
โ
If you live, work, or travel through these areas, please keep an eye out for Zeus. He's a large black Great Dane mix with a white chest and gray around his muzzle.
โ
If you see a dog resembling Zeus, PLEASE take a photo or video from a safe distance and note the exact location, time, and direction of travel.
โ
DO NOT CHASE, APPROACH, OR CALL OUT TO HIM. This could frighten him and push him farther away. We have experienced volunteers ready to help verify sightings and coordinate humane trapping efforts to bring him home safely.
โ
REPORT POSSIBLE SIGHTINGS: 901-481-7313
โ
Please continue sharing Zeus's picture and putting flyers throughout Summit, Pike County, and surrounding communities.
It's possible he's traveled farther away, or someone may have taken him in without realizing we're searching for him.
โ
To everyone who has searched, shared, prayed, or offered to help, THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS.
โ
We're still recovering from our injuries, but the hardest part has been not knowing where our boy is.
โ
We know there are good people in your community, and we're asking you to help us bring our family back together.
โ
With sincere gratitude,
โ
Shari and Charles Shackelford
